I like Andrew Gold and agree with him on a lot. His work on pedophiles and interviewing Dr James Cantor was brave. Cantor has views that could easily get Andrew cancelled and lose money but he did the interview anyway. For example: Dr Cantor believes pedos and other paraphilic orientations should be part of the LBGTQ.

It's been really sad to watch Andrew's spiral into this new career path. I enjoyed his actual documentaries from back whenever he was still doing that. I thought they were pretty in depth and well done, and I think they still hold up. I actually found you guys because Gold mentioned DTG on a video. Was very grateful for his “recommendation”. You articulated the spirit of my concerns beautifully! I had seen this video about his interview with Eni Aluko earlier this year - I fell for the click bait. Incredibly condescending. I also heard him talk about playing the algorithm game with his hyped titles and thumbnails (as you pointed out), which is so cynical. There’s a thread that comes through a bunch of his content along the lines of “I don’t want to do this but I have no choice if I’m going to save the world”. I managed to purge my YouTube feed of his stuff.

I really felt bad for her. Like you said, below the belt the way he’s exploiting it, feels mean. You summarised the toxic incentives well. I listen to some of his interviews on his podcast and he also chats about stuff there that he doesn’t put on YouTube. I think he has mentioned that he has to put the cringe clickbait titles to maximise views on there. This is totally beyond the pale though.
