[0.9] - Progress Report #2

Since I didn’t post much last month, I thought it’d be a good time for a brief Progress Report to basically let you all know that everything is still moving forward and on track!

About Recent Events
As many of you may have heard, and coinciding with this new wave of censorship that seems to be hitting many places at once, the payment processors (pressured by a small activist group) forced Steam and Itch.io to audit all the adult content in their libraries, leading to Itch.io having to shadow-ban all adult games from its catalog.
Although the game is free for everyone, Itch.io is my main platform for reaching new players and potential patrons, so losing that visibility put the project at serious risk. Even more concerning, this incident set a dangerous precedent where credit card companies could dictate what types of content are allowed on the internet, even if those games are completely legal and clearly labeled as adult games, like Eternum.
Luckily, yesterday adult games were re-listed on Itch.io (as long as they opted out of accepting money through that platform, either through donations or selling the game). While it's not exactly how things used to be, it's a step back towards normal. If nothing changes, you can expect me to continue posting the game there for free as usual. New updates will also continue being released here on Patreon as always have been, so no worries there either.
I’ll be honest, situations like this really spike my anxiety, like it happened with the music issue a few months ago (I swear, this development cycle seems cursed) and it unfortunately affects my productivity.
This is not an excuse, but I still get very frustrated when it happens.
I must say though, knowing I have such a loyal and supportive community makes all the difference. You guys keep me grounded, and I can’t thank you enough❤️

0.9 development
Now, on to the good stuff!
While the development of v0.9 has been rougher and slower than I’d hoped, we’ve already made good progress and completed a big chunk of content.
Like I mentioned before, this will be the biggest update yet. It’ll feature 4 new lewd scenes, a wide variety of different settings and characters, and many hours of new content. So far, there are already over 1,150 renders and more than 10,700 lines of code, and we’re still not done! (For comparison, versions 0.1 and 0.2 each had less than 10K lines.)
Many of the love interests will reach major turning points in their relationships with the MC, and the main plot will continue to move, slowly but surely, towards the grand finale of this epic journey.
You'll also see more and more harem interactions (for those in that path) between the girls.

The writing is always the hardest. Getting the on-screen dialog right is a tough task, and getting it right so it's true to the story but doesn't leave any subscriber hanging is very hard. The artwork and vids take the most time, but have the least impact when you look at the entire project. And this one is huge! The fact that progress is still being made (86% now is substantial) means the dev has settled in, doesn't whine (much, LOL), and is well organized. TBH, 4K, 2K or 1080p will hardly matter in the playthrough itself. If the characters are good looking the renders could be 720p and people would still be invested in it for the storyline itself. It IS this good. There's competition (Leap Of Faith, Summer's Gone, u4ia, Heaven's Door, Chasing Sunsets, SWTA and a dozen I've probably missed) but this one just hits different... it feels polished. And doesn't need the tired, mundane kinks to do it! It's super sexy and fun with positive vibes in a broadly successful genre. And still has tons of room to expand... i.e., it could go on for years down different paths (similar to Fetish Locator) if the dollars are there to expand, hire out the processes and still keep the quality going forward.

Typically when you are enjoying adult visual novels that are in alpha/beta stages you won't see much in the way of updates to the existing game. Almost 100% of creator focus is on generating new content in the form on advancing the story, creating new sex scenes, and rendering dialogue scenes. A lot of the still image renders that make up the bulk of the game have to be clothed, positioned, and lit before the CPU even gets to cranking out images, so this takes longer than you'd think. To answer the first part of your question, that depends mostly on the engine. Renpy is the most popular and still releases new updates from time to time that can invalidate past saves. Sometimes this also can happen if the author does like you're describing and edits existing content as altering some lines of code will corrupt save files. I would say 85% of the time when an update comes out, you can just copy/paste your save folder into the new file and continue on with your existing progress though.

This is the first game of this type I've downloaded, and it's turning out to be very good. I see that this one keeps getting updated, but it's not finished yet. I had a couple of questions: 1) When a new version comes out, do I lose all previous progress? 2) Do new versions usually only work on the content where the previous version left off? Or do they also improve things from the earlier parts of the game, such as changes to the story text, music, improved animations, etc.?

This is top tier ... in ANY genre. There are no weaknesses to this game. Story, pathways, coding, visuals, video, etc. are just spot on. NLT does good work, but this is busier, sexier and more humorous than just about anything else out there. Now if we could just see updates hitting every two weeks .... LMAO. I know, I'll show myself out.....

Just finished Eternum and I’m blown away! The story, characters, and wholesome vibes are unreal. I’m stuck looping through soundtracks, totally lost in your world. Huge kudos for creating something so gripping! Any tips on easing back to reality? Struggling to move on here. 😅
