I want to add that the Absolute Guard was actually already capable of very good protection against the spiritrons (spiritual particles) that make up Holy Magic. But it wasn't good enough for Raphael. I get the impression that the difference is possibly as small as a fraction of a percent.

They completely skipped the conversation rimuru had with Raphael regarding the sacrificing of Beelzebub so this is the summarization of why it was done. Raphael needed to do it in order to analyze the spiritrons so absolute guard could actually defend against holy magic because that's what makes it so scary it not only becomes stronger the more faith people have in you (Meaning luminous having the largest following in the world is one of strongest holy magic users to exist) it completely bypass most conventional forms of defense and attack the soul itself so unless your prepared for holy magic your screw'd. so the scene they showed of rimuru using Uriel's absolute guard to block that Trinity Disintegration normally would not have worked would have gone through and erase his body and soul.

Didn't know that about the WN. They also don't say much in the LN about what this Love Energy ritual is, exactly, except the anime didn't use the word "kiss". I wonder how faithful a rendering of the Japanese it is? That's not the only character or relationship that they have you wondering about either.

In the web novel, Hinata and Nicolaus are actually lovers (or at the very least they sleep together lol) but in the Light Novels they changed it so he is more like a fanatic follower of Hinata. Not sure which version I prefer, but in my head cannon it is still entirely possible that they have a romantic relationship in the LN hahaha
