I am really glad to have joined the NerdForge community. Catching up on your videos and loving the variety of techniques. About the leather jackets-- I do wood and leather pyrography. If I wanted to do that on the leather jacket, would you suggest doing it before or after the leather is attached to the book? I am particularly curious because I wonder whether there is any shrinkage when applying varnish or water when shaping the leather to the spine folds and gluing it to the board covers. Thank you.

That's really awesome! Yes, I do experience this myself sometimes, but I've found that the tighter I sew the signatures together the less glue will seep through. If you have a book press (or just use a heavy stack of anything), you could try to clamp the signatures after sewing them before adding the glue, like you suggested. I think that should prevent the problem :)

I started making my first book! But the thing I encountered when placing the glue on the spine, was that some of it would leak down in between the signatures (and then those pages would stick together slightly...). Is there a way you recommend to avoid this? Or should I just clamp the signatures tighter next time?

Thank you, Vincent! Yes, you're correct. It's mostly because I think that it's easier to work with as it takes longer to cure, and so there's more time to really get all the steps I need done. As in the video, I do use contact cement around the inside edges when fastening the leather to the covers, as those are pretty critical points that need to be very strongly bonded, and I use contact cement or quick drying epoxy glue to attach any metal ornaments onto the book. Hope that answers your question, and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos so far!

I love watching you make books. I could watch it all day! I did wonder one thing with this one: I noticed you use a lot of white glue and not contact cement, etc. Is there any particular reason you go with it? I would think it wouldn't be strong enough but obviously that isn't the case since your books seem to be well-constructed. Anyway keep up the great work! Can't wait to see the rest of this series! This one turned out awesome.
