Fun start, absentee parent abandoning their child and with only cryptic messages about how to find them reminds me a lot of some of the Wuxia novels I've read. I wonder if he'll have a similar reason, most common I've seen is the child is the offspring of forbidden love and the missing parent's family would kill the kid as they are a stain on their honour if the parent stuck around.
It's a very good start for a story. Looking for more chapters!
