The mayor seems overwhelmed with administrative tasks. Maybe Carlos and Amber can magically automate some of his routine work, and thus gain the mayor's enthusiastic support.

Crim2582

Hopefully Carlos is smart enough to let the mayor know that there will be no shake-ups in how the town is run for now and that he intends to work with the mayor to improve the region and the lives of the people. The worst thing new management can do is try mark their territory by changing shit that was already working. Observe the situation. Find the flaws. Orient yourself in that situation. What good can you do where? Decide on what to do leveraging the info from Observe and Orient. Act on that decision. Then iterate repeating the above steps. Related to the above. What's the difference between science and fucking around? Writing shit down.

Great description at the beginning; made me want a sandwich like Carlos's. Good dig at typical action-scifi cover illustrations. Carlos needs to charm the mayor into helping him find his way around. I can't wait until Trinlen gets there!

Beeees!

I think I'm going to like this mayor guy, seems like an actually competent person (maybe). Will be very interesting to see how they work togethor

There is a common trope of bikini armor. Literally leaving vast swathes of skin exposed. I could see some skin to increase flexibility assuming the armor is more anchor for an enchantment, everyone having to dodge tank rather than shield tank

> The guard certainly wasn't wearing scanty armor designed to show off a female body more than to protect it as so many video games and stories featured, but that was a ridiculous and unrealistic trope anyway. Eeehhh... Full Plate armor WAS designed to show off the male body tho, with stuff like cod pieces (google it) and thin waists (which were considered manly at the time, even if the design created a weakness in the armor). There weren't any armor pieces designed with a contrasting feminine aesthetic, because there weren't enough women who wore armor to justify designing it, so in the cases where a woman did wear armor, (like Joan d'Arc) she would use one already made for a man. Not to mention, it was probably desirable for even those women in armor to appear intimidating, and thus more "masculine". In a world where women regularly wear armor, whether or not "female plate armor" would be a thing depends on whether or not women are still considered "weaker" by potential enemies, I would think.

A few thoughts: - Are magic users in this world interacting with someone's proof-of-concept API layer? Maybe it was something that was supposed to be refactored later, but inevitably left to grow organically once it went into production? - What kinds of things can trigger a reassessment of one's soul structure rank? Is the first one free, and then a paid service thereafter? - If the mayor had that reaction, maybe there's a tourism trade to be had in Dramos's future...? - Thinking back: I wonder how many of the UI elements Carlos has been seeing in his mind's eye are low-level calls to the world's magic system (like making GDI calls instead of using a more-developed library).
