Did you know Zhivago came to us from a rescue mission in Utah, 3 years ago? He was among the same group as Foxx, Dakota and Shadow! He is an albino raccoon who isn’t a big fan of humans, but we rub along quite fine as long as we respect his boundaries. We think his hearing and vision aren’t the greatest either. The other raccoons he came with were quickly adopted by another rescue.

I bet he could be socialized some. Needs a companion who he likes, but that is already socialized. That companion would work like a Rosetta Stone translate the social skills to him through raccoon. My idea is that animals speak their own languages in communication from nonverbal body language and sounds, smells, eye movements, expressions. So if an animal is not very well socialized, they really just don't speak human. That's just an armchair theory, but still worth thinking about a little. I realize actual social skills, animal instincts, and a built in fear of humans is part of the equation, but I still think the communicative "language" they know is not human unless imprinted on them at an early age.
Wow. Raccoons look so very different without their markings. It's kind of like seeing someone who wears a lot of makeup without any on. 😂
