Penguin update
🕑 Added 2024-12-07 15:46:40 +0000 UTCHe is still hospitalized at UF, but he has been remaining stable this entire time! I’m so incredibly thankful I got him there in time and for the truly amazing staff at UF! He went septic due to the perforation and the antibiotics initially were not working due to extremely low protein levels. An emergency blood transfusion was highly recommended to save him, so I brought them three potential donors. Big Red, Pogo, and Raffy were my first choices due to their sizes. Big Red and Raffy were matches and donated, but Pogo was not a match. The transfusions were done that evening and they actually worked!! Penguin’s body responded and he was finally able to start fighting the infection and his levels are heading in the right direction!! They are able to stop fluids due to him drinking on his own along with removing the IV catheter soon. He’s still on a feeding tube, but is having fecal matter so his GI tract is functioning correctly. I’m so incredibly happy to be able to share this positive news!! He still has a long road of recovery, but he’s made so much progress. He’s a fighter and Big Red and Raffy are heros!

Read this through tears of relief🥹. So so happy to hear this news. I too was thinking how wonderful that the foxes are saving the fox…how special is that🙌🏻🥰. I just can’t express how great you all are to give Penguin this chance at life. I’ve been making donations and purchases whenever and wherever I can to help support this huge most worthy expense. Thank you so much SAF and friends🦊🧡

This is amazing news! Yay for poop (i understand that significance since guinea pigs are also prone to gi issues)! Fingers crossed he continues to make progress in the right direction and can return home to his friends soon!
