Same settings for PS5 pro as well?

UPDATE 2025/07/16 - Added clicks for LG G5/C5 OLEDs

P40L0

Use +16 clicks here. Better be slightly above than slightly below

haris mohammad

Hello so for a 1100 nits tv I would do 16 clicks to be a litter over than under 1100? Since it’s my first time calibrating on ps5 for death stranding 2 and I see it’s not a scale like on Windows.

P40L0

+21 Clicks should do. If you still see the logo a bit try +22 Clicks

Nanofoo

Hello Paolo! I have a LG G5. How many clicks do I need to do for the Max luminance if I use HGIG?

P40L0

Go with +15

Mark

I have LG C4 '42' size, and this TV have less brightness than larger types. So my question is when i use HGIG the HDR Calibration with PS5 is +15 clicks or +14? What the best?

Emil Mathisen

Intresting so on ps5 pro at 15 clicks the sun is less vissible then on ps5

P40L0

Yes as you can see in the table if you use +16 it will clip too much (+117 nits) which would be worse than slightly be under with +15 (-32 nits)

Emil Mathisen

So on the lg g2 you say use +15 clicks but it clips at 16 for me? Is that normal should i still use 15?

P40L0

Maybe try to re-check all settings both for the consoles and the TV as something may have changed after the consoles' switch

Shane O'Connor

Hmm...it seems overly dark compared to before. I guess I'll fiddle around with it and see what feels best. Thanks for the quick reply.

P40L0

No and I won't (the improvements over base PS5 are not worth 900€ at all), sorry. That said HDR Calibration should be the same. I mean, each click/step should still land to the same values, so 4000 nits it's still recommended for DTM (doesn't matter what you see in that pattern)

Shane O'Connor

Paolo, did you get a PS5 Pro? I've got a CX with DTM on, and +25 seems to be too much now. Curious if you've tested the PRO yet.

P40L0

No

Tyler Pickney

Do the OLED settings also count towards a non-LG QD-OLED monitor?

P40L0

Yes

Moxify

Yes, I meant exactly :) Sorry for the dumb question but is it 25 clicks from the bottom, like you click 25 times upwards from the bottom (the upper dpad) on first and second sliders? And let the third be the lowest? :) thanks again. Appreciate your work.

P40L0

Not "approximately", but exactly, yes :)

Moxify

I see :) I use DTM. So the first two sliders should be approx 25 clicks from the bottom/invisible sun? :)

P40L0

I'm not saying to set anything to max luminance. "Max luminance" is just the name I used to describe the first two screens/sliders, which have to be set to +25 clicks up from downmost position if you use DTM or +14 clicks if you use HGiG in your case. The last, black level screen should always be set to 0, downmost position.

Moxify

Ill try these HDR settings for sure on my C3. Most of the games I play is HDR I believe. I just use your HDR Filmakermode + ALLM for that. PS5 tells us to barely see the «sun» in HDR calibration so Ive just sticked to that for now… So you tell us the first and second page should be max, like when the sun is MAX visible? And last one should be lowest, like invisible? :) Will games even look better? :O

P40L0

No it's HDR Cinema preset + webOS HDR column settings

Larry Wesby

One more question where is “use HDR Cinema + Movies” settings for ps5. is it filmmaking mode?

Larry Wesby

Thanks appreciate it

P40L0

Yes

Larry Wesby

Is the sharpness setting supposed to be at zero in game optimzer as well?

P40L0

Yes if you're using DTM

ejinn

I’m using a 77 G3 and using your FILMMAKER + ALLM settings for HDR with DTM on PS5 and it clips at 21 clicks. Do I still go all the way to the 25?

P40L0

Turning off tone mapping = HGIG. So you can do that if you prefer for games, otherwise if you have tone mapping on stick to 1.000 nits in that case.

Laurens

If I don’t have an LG Oled and no HGIG option do I have to turn of tone mapping before I calibrate HDR ?

P40L0

What Sony TV do you have exactly?

Laurens

P40L0

Yes, you should stop as soon as it clips, so as you can see I suggest 14 clicks with HGIG ;)

David Soto

I have a LG CX and at 13 clicks using HGIG the picture is barely visible, should I go up one more click?

Jason Tsorlinis

Thanks for that, from what I understand it's because turning DTM off only turns off the "dynamic" part of it but the image is still tone mapped to a fixed value. That would also explain why LG tvs have seperate options for "Off" and "Hgig"

P40L0

I've not yet directly tested one of those so I'm not 100% sure about that, but if that is the case yes: +15 clicks for 1.000 nits would be correct for DTM. With Tone Mapping Off (=HGIG) 800 nits would be better.

Jason Tsorlinis

Interesting, everything I've read/seen in reviews suggests that Sony TV's Tone mapping has the most accurate EOTF and is optimized for 1000 nits mastered content, which is why it's suggested to use 15 clicks on Sony TVs and DTM on

P40L0

Because 95% of all HDR movies are mastered at 4.000 nits, some at 10.000 nits while only few at 2.000 or 1.000 nits. That's why "Tone Mapping" and later on "Dynamic Tone Mapping" were created for home TVs in order to best accomodate those masterings to 800/1.000 nits-only panels.

Jason Tsorlinis

Thanks for all that info, Really appreciate it. I'm just a bit confused as to why 4000 or 10000. If I leave DTM on the calibration clips at 19 clicks or 1700 nits, so from my understanding the dynamic tone mapping only maps up to 1700 nits, wouldn't going higher cause clipping in the image?

P40L0

The values you see above were measured with a reference HDR monitor and won't change between Sony/LG or other manufacturers TVs. This means that +15 clicks will always output around 1.000 nits, +25 clicks around 4.000 nits, +31 clicks around 10.000 nits etc. What will change is how those nits will be translated by each TV's Tone Mapping solution in place. In your case, X90J Peak HDR Luminance is similar to all LG OLEDs (except G2) so around 800 nits so you need to decide which Tone Mapping is best for you: -With "HDR Tone Mapping: Off" you will basically replicate HGIG, so you need to setup PS5 HDR Calibration app to +14/+14/0 for best results; -With HDR Tone Mapping (and DTM): On you need to think contents mainly targeted for movies, so setting PS5 to 4.000 nits or 10.000 nits may look better with it compared to leaving it to 800 nits for HGIG. In that case, you should set PS5 to +25/+25/0 or even to Max +31/+31/0 for better results, no matter if you're able to see the logo or not while you do so. Between the "primary" choice of HGIG vs DTM, you should read why and when one is better than the other here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/68309490

Jason Tsorlinis

After watching Vincent's videos for a while now, I was under the impression that for most Sony TV's you want it set to 15/15/0 which sets the peak to ~1000. If I leave "Gradation Preferred" DTM on and follow the on-screen instructions I get something closer to 20 for the first 2 clicks. Which is more correct? TV is an X90J if that makes a difference
