You need to make sure you're in an HDR game and select the FMM preset first, only then you need to click on HGIG on ColorControl and it will be sent to the TV (and the currently selected HDMI/preset)

Love your app but I'm having an issue with it and my LG G5. I'm able to apply hdrFMM and HGIG on my PC by using the Expert menu options, which is using HDM1, and i can see these settings change in the LG tv menu happen in real time. But when I try to do the same for hdmi 2, 3 and 4, nothing changes. I have my series x, ps5 and switch 2 on the other inputs and I'm using the HDMI port drop down menu to select the input.

Yes it will be applied in SDR. You can test it by just seeing the luminance of the currently displayed content increasing noticeably with the same OLED Light value

I tried setting the peak brightness to high via the color control and I was able to change it successfully to whatever value I wanted but no matter what the setting itself was always greyed out on my G4. Does setting it to high affect anything if the option is still greyed out? I feel like the TV is very inconsistent on whether greyed out options are still “applied”.

First open an HDR game on the TV while staying in ALLM + FMM. Then on ColorControl click Expert Button in the upper part of the app -> Dynamic Tone Mapping -> Click HGIG and it will be applied to the TV preset permanently (unless you manually change it again)

Yes, Limited = Low. You don't "need" it but honestly these TVs are pre-calibrated for Limited/Low range and the "Auto" setting is often bugged creating mismatches if the consoles are set to High. I would just force everything to Limited/Low and have a peace of mind. You can also do other stuff with ColorControl as well if you want, as listed.

Yes, it's the same setting just with different naming (between the app and different LG OLEDs series). No, ColorControl doesn't void your warranty as long as you don't enter into the hidden Service Menu of the TV (but you don't need to do that anymore since 2022 series and newer)

No, HGIG will still be better for those games which let you set the exact nits of the TV, while new DTM will be much closer to that for those and better for the ones which won't let you. HGIG will always have a slightly lower input lag tho and you can choose to force it even in FMM via ColorControl if you prefer so.

You stated: Fully unlock PC Mode and customize any locked setting to your preference (except TruMotion settings, which unfortunately will remain locked). In my testing thus far, the Clarity Settings available to change via ColorControl are: Smooth Gradation and TruMotion (which can be changed to user selection: judder/blur set to 2). Noise Reduction, MPEG Noise Reduction and Noise Reduction are not available in the ColorControl expert settings.

PC Icon / Mode is only recommended if you're not watching movies or videos from that input as it will lock out most Clarity settings useful for them. If you don't watch them from that input, yes, you can use PC Mode to slightly improve texts clarity and color banding. Thanks for clarifying, it definitely fixes the raised black levels in dark scenes, gonna need to use my torch more:) In your LG OLED optimization guide you suggest not using PC Input Mode and instead using Game Console Input mode. What is the reason for that and would you suggest using PC Mode using LG OLED as PC display and if so what ColorControl settings do you suggest in tandem?

No, it's HDMI Black Level which you should be able to set to Low/High or Auto. Set it to Low.

Ok. Thank you. For the LG C3 in ColorControl Expert Settings there is the "Brightness/Black Level" and "HDMI Black Level" setting. I think you are probably referring to the HDMI Black Level option, although there is no corresponding setting that I can find in the C3 OSD settings. Otherwise perhaps you are referring to the OLED Motion Black Frame Insertion? Which can be changed from ColorControl to low. I appreciate you helping to clarify.

For people who only have Linux or MacOS, you can use "bscpylgtv" which is an open-source project on GitHub. If you have Python installed, in the terminal do "pip install bscpylgt", for C3 I ran these : - When your TV is in SDR mode : bscpylgtvcommand YOUR_TV_IP_ADRESS set_current_picture_settings "{\"peakBrightness\": \"high\"}" - When it's in HDR mode : bscpylgtvcommand YOUR_TV_IP_ADRESS set_current_picture_settings "{\"hdrDynamicToneMapping\": \"HGIG\"}"

Nope :) Just remember to change games' Peak HDR Luminance to 1.500 nits in your case and also re-do the system level HDR Calibration for it.

Hey Paolo! I managed to get it to work and enabled HGIG with FMM + ALLM. I also changed the black level from 49 to 50. Are there any other settings that need to be changed from your definitive guide, such as "Fine tune dark areas" or anything else?

Difference is small: slightly punchier highlights, a bit more contrast and slighltly lower input lag. You have to be in the same Wi-Fi network for the app to work, but if you can't make it don't worry and stick with DTM along the other suggested settings ;)

It didn’t work for me unfortunately. The app wasn’t able to locate the TV even after manually adding it. I’ll just stick to HDR FMM + ALLM + DTM. Do you find there is a major visual difference between this setting and adding the HGIG option?

1. It's better for the games where you can exactly set 1.500 nits Peak HDR Luminance in your case, but may look a bit off for the others where you can't (luckily there are fewer and fewer of the latter). Just remember to also set back Black Level from 49 to 50 if you will do so 2. No ;)

Are you referring to ALLM / Low Latency trigger? You don't need ColorControl for that but Windows 11 + enabling Game Mode + VRR (G-Sync or Freesync) in it and NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel. Follow my full PC Guide here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/88124101 With ColorControl you may then force HGIG even when using HDR Filmmaker Mode preset for gaming to further lower input lag and have a bit better accuracy (when also setup Windows 11 HDR Calibration app and games to 1.500 nits Peak HDR Luminance).

Use the Expert button in Color Control after connecting to the TV and then you can change almost everything how you want (even the greyed out values) for the selected preset on the TV

My opinion is that for most people and scenario both PC Mode and 4:4:4 are not worth it: you will lose important Clarity options for Movies (as Smooth Gradation, TruMotion) for an almost unnnoticeable benefit in texts clarity. The only case where PC Mode is usefuly is with actual PC usage where you don't watch movies and you don't use VRR, so to preserve lower input lag with other presets than Game Mode (as FMM)

Yes, you can change inputs from CC. PC Mode will block most Clarity settings (including TruMotion) and you can't force them even with CC, you need to use any other HDMI Icon to restore them.

Question: you have listed Use DV Game preset (with same optimized settings) instead of DV Cinema Home as DV Game demonstrated to be the best DV preset of these TVs (with the best DV Tone Mapping) with the exception of the "Real Cinema" option forcefully set to "OFF"...until now! Is there anything special needed to detect or connect to a C2 with current webOS version? The app automatically found a B7A on the same network, but did not find the C2. If I add IP and Mac address manually for the C2 it comes up with a connecting dialog, but gets stuck there and never completes.

No, you cannot (and shouldn't) completely turn off ABL in order to avoid permanent burn-in of the panel, but you can disable TPC & GSR from the hidden Service Menu in order to fix the auto-dimming on dark scene and its broken luminance recovery after. Can we disable the automatic brightness limiter with this app? LG OLEDs reach up to 800 nits for small areas, but anytime a large area of the screen is illuminated the TV software dims the entire screen, making even the brightest areas much less than 800 nits. It's very distracting when it happens.

Unfortunately I was told if I reset the settings for a picture mode (in this case game optimiser) then this will reset the calibration. So ideally I'm looking for a fix in which I can change the colour temperature to warm on the colorcontrol app

Mmmh, probably the color temp was already calibrated by the calibrator and doesn't need to be changed again. Otherwise you can also try to use the "Reset" button from the preset to restore its default settings and it should probably unlock.

Thanks for trying to help problem solve this for me, it's really appreciated! The colour temperature was locked out by my calibration I was told, hence why it's greyed out. No AI stuff is enabled. I'm assuming within the ColorControl app there is something missing or that I'm missing, for me to change the 0-50 scale to negative, warm numbers but I can't find it

Mmmh, strange. The slider should also go "negative" to the Warmer numbers. My question is: why do you have that locked on the TV? It shouldn't be. Maybe try disable AI "stuff" (probably it's AI Auto Genre Selection fault) from general settings and see if you can adjust color temp after. I would avoid reactivating AI Auto Genre Setion too.

Okay so on my TV the value is W50-C50, but in the app there is only a slider from 0-50 for colour temperature which refer to 0-C50 and a slider called white balance cour temperature from cool to warm 3 which doesn't change the colour temperature on my LG G2

Maybe double check if the preset you're changing has "Warm2/Warm1/etc" values or a "W50 to C50" numerical slider, than change the relative setting in ColorControl app (which will have both). After changing it in the app the TV will generate a prompt for you to accept, then it will apply it for the preset...but if you have a 2017 LG OLED only a white/empty box will appear and you need to click BACK on the physical remote to apply it!

I don't know if I'm missing something, but through the app I can only change the colour temperature to a cool value. When I look on my TV the value says cool, even when changing the white balance colour temperature to warm2 through the app. Any suggestions?

Absolutely not. You can't do harm with this, it's just like having a "super remote" for calibrators with unlocked access to presets and nothing else. The worse that could happen is that a specific setting won't apply to your TV and nothing happens or if you enable heavy processing stuff in Game Mode (like TruMotion) you can increase input lag, but you should know this ;)
