Resident Evil 4: Remake - HDR Optimized Settings
🕑 Added 2023-03-12 09:55:22 +0000 UTC
The game is NOT using/applying Xbox/Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
____________________________________________________________________________________
The release version of the game has different HDR values compared to the Demo.
Please double check your settings!
____________________________________________________________________________________
The game has a good HDR implementation with (finally) no more black level raise issues as RE2:R and in part RE3:R and provides in-game Peak HDR Luminance sliders which can go up to 4.000 nits, but unfortunately the patterns used for those sliders do not represent the actual results you will have in-game.

If you have an LG OLED and:
> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:
Set Max Brightness (HDR) slider to: +10 Clicks (Max; from Middle/Default, which is around 4.000 nits);
Leave Brightness (HDR) slider to: Middle/Default
> you're using HGIG:
Set Max Brightness (HDR) slider to: -4 Clicks (from Middle/Default, which is around 800 nits) or 0/Mid (for G2/C4) or +4 Clicks (for G3/G4)
Leave Brightness (HDR) slider to: Middle/Default
If you don't have an LG OLED and:
> you don't have an HGIG option:
Set Max Brightness (HDR) slider to: Middle/Default (which is around 1.000 nits)
Leave Brightness (HDR) slider to: Middle/Default
> you're using HGIG:
Set Max Brightness (HDR) slider to the corresponding real Peak HDR Luminance of your TV in "nits" by following these references:

Leave Brightness (HDR) slider to: Middle/Default
BONUS:
Performance Mode with No RT without VRR is Recommended on both XSX and PS5: this will provide the best IQ/Resolution while maintaining locked 60fps. The RT implementation on consoles is almost anecdotal and it isn't worth the performance drop;
If you have a VRR TV, use the Resolution Mode with No RT but only on XSX (as PS5 does not support VRR with LFC and will result in visible stutters with this game);
Disable Leon advanced hair physics in all cases: as this will bug Leon model illumination and also drop the performance, so it is not worth it as well;
Turn Off Chromatic Aberration & Lens Distortion in all cases: for improving image claritiy on all versions/modes;
Disable Film Grain: to improve both clarity and contrast of the picture.
Enjoy :)

Personal preference but it seems like the default brightness was made with DTM in mind as its too dark (not talking dim) with hgig on LG G5. Bumping brightness to max and it looks great. The brightness slider doesnt impact nits only contrast in a great way

Good :)

I'm playing in ps5 pro mode Quality with high frame rate mode on , hair physics on and pssr and fps are above 60 and with Quality settings🔥
P40L0
Try Performance Mode with RT. HDR is not changed instead
Sebastian Rocha
Hey P! Any recommendations for ps5 pro?
P40L0
Yes, all the same.
Abdullah Saeed
do the settings remain the same for latest residential evil 4 remake patch for ps5/lg oled c2?
Himmler Joachim
I liked the color depth improvements in RE3, but I'll try without DV tonight. Thanks.
P40L0
I never recommend gaming in Dolby Vision, while DV is good for Movies. I wrote an article about it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/68354628
Himmler Joachim
Do you recommend using Dolby vision? I don't see you mention it here
P40L0
Yes
David Soto
Last question lol so for my LG CX it’s -4 from the middle with HGIG on
David Soto
Thank you I appreciate your response!
P40L0
No, deadzones are much improved now on Xbox after the latest patch so my adjustments are not compatible/relevant anymore (I've updated the post), but you can still play with them a bit even after patch if you prefer it ;)
David Soto
Do the camera acceleration settings still apply after the latest patch?
P40L0
Correct ;)
garbonzonia
Hi Paolo, for G3 HGIG it sounds like i want to +4 from the middle and then leave the slider as is. Correct?
Victor Luong
I see the new chart. Thank you sir!!
P40L0
Si, è veramente stupendo!
Michael
Space Nightmares
As always, thank you, Paolo. You're a Godsend.
Michael
thanks
P40L0
Absolutely, yes. -7 is much darker now compared to the demo, so maybe try -3 or -2 as well.
Michael
lg c1, hghi and i find -4 dark now... -7 was good...are we sure value changed from demo to retail?
P40L0
I've updated the chart as well, so you're probably seeing the old/cached one. Try a CTRL+F5 to refresh the page (with the cache cleared) and you should see the new values :)
Victor Luong
Is the HDR luminance chart still accurate if the HDR values for the final release have changed compared to the chainsaw demo?
P40L0
Exactly :)
Dylan Ryan
Ok so under Camera Acceleration, “Normal Gameplay” should be maxed out and “When Aiming” -5 main bars from the right to left. Thanks!!
P40L0
No, see the image. The first is maxed out, the second is like -5 "main bars" from right to left.
Dylan Ryan
So I should turn both of those up all the way you mean? For Xbox
P40L0
The first one is indeed Normal Gameplay, the second one is When Aiming ;)
Dylan Ryan
Hey for the “XSX/XSS Only: Use the following Camera Acceleration settings (Visual/Game Camera & Aim) to compensate/fix Xbox deadzones issue” What settings need to be changed here? I see under Camera Acceleration: -Normal Gameplay -When Aiming Wasn’t sure which ones you were referring to. Thanks!
