James: I didn't tell you, because I hate you. Mike Oh... (starts to cry) James: :)

It's just really odd in this sense. We saw in the last few pages Mike was ignoring everyone else to give Sandy the time of day; even Chris was upset about it. Should James just stare at a wall while Mike is on the phone with Sandy? Mike wants to be able to ignore ppl at the drop of a hat but also be included. He needs to learn to balance his relationships better; not everyone can be doing all the work for him.

I feel like Mike needs to kiss it out with someone, and maybe break up with the poison thorn that seems to only bring him misery. Happiness and energy are finite, especially for morose teens.

Oh god, it just clicked for me. Mike is now experiencing the same thing Lucy did when Sandy first came into the picture. James wasn't getting the affection he wanted from Mike, so he moved on to David and is focusing on that relationship exclusively. Much like Mike didn't technically cut Lucy out at first, James isn't cutting Mike out. But Mike isn't exactly being included either. It's third wheel to the extreme, and when you put all of your value on a single person liking or accepting you, the prospect of being cast aside for them to spend time with someone else... I mean, the poetic karma here is palpable. At the very least I hope James can talk Mike through it and REALLY get him to internalize the damage he'd done to Lucy, not just when he verbally assaulted her, but all throughout his time with Sandy where he made her feel like she had no value. Considering this is happening on the track in view of Lucy, as well as the chapter literally being called Line in the Sand... I have at least some hope. Though knowing this comic, things are probably gonna get much worse before they finally work things out.

James just wants to share his interests with his new crush and Mike wants to be wanted and appreciated. Mike needs to sort himself out before he brings drama to a kid who doesn’t deserve drama.
