Don't get me wrong, i get what Augustus is trying to do. But fighting Lucy's battles behind her back is not what she probably wants. And as far as we know Mikes presence in the square may not be what's actually getting to lucy. She could very much just be having a bad time and backsliding. But how will she handle this?

Augustus and Lucy are my fave and I don't think she's sticking up to Mike. I think she just doesn't want be "that bad guy" and wants to do what's right, by understanding that you can't really force someone to not go somewhere because of her. Currently she cares about Augy more than anyone else, she doesn't want him to stoop so low. They might have a fight over this but I don't think it will be a long one.

Could be that Augustus loosing control over this and aggressively inssisting to win is because he has an unresolved trauma regarding how he couldn't protect Melanie and she almost died? Now he worries to fail protecting Lucy as well. If so it can be an intresting point to expand on.
