I dont want to be rude to them so I'll just say I think a big reason is they havent read the earlier chapters in awhile and memory isnt a reliable source so they treat mike as though hes always been a jerk and hes way more calculated and malicious than what he actually was

It's kinda crazy to me that some people in the comments compare what Mike is doing to Lucy's abuse in the past There is a big difference between beating up someone for years on end for no reason other then you feel like it and snapping at someone who is clearly harrassing you That's almost litteraly the bad teacher steriotype of always ignoring the bully but to instantly apprehend the bullied person if he ever fights back That said obviously what Mike is doing now isn't the right way to go about it, it would have been better to explain why he said what he said to Lucy I think everyone including Aug would be open to listen to it. Sadly Mike fell into his age old trap again of letting things boil till a violent outburst
