It is a reasonable move even for Serena to play nice in this case. The Baskets are allies at this point and letting them guess does little harm compared to Amelia being herself. As for the boots, I would agree for anyone else, but they are warded with enough resilience that lacking boots does limited harm if they cannot get them on in time.

Such acute chapter! Love how nervous Amelia was and yeah, really believe Nefertari knows it's Amelia at the table. Totally understand school and holiday/family comes first. Have a Happy New Year!

Where has the fearsome Captain Serena Halen gone? She has allowed both Bastets to walk all over her and Amelia. There are two things in particular in this chapter. She and Amelia should not have taken off their boots. They may need to run at a moment's notice - a soldier can fight without his rifle but trying to to soldier things without boots would be asinine. The other thing is the interrogation of Amelia that she and Serena just went along with. They should have both just shut up, and not answered even one question about Lia Liona. Nefertari is a politician, it's her job to know things about her opponents' constituencies. She would know instantly that Amelia's answers are nonsense.
