Have you ever felt like your opinion of a game was wildly out-of-step with its popular reception? And has this ever retroactively affected how you felt about it? A great example of this for me was Doom Eternal; I thoroughly enjoyed my time with that game and thought the changes they made to the combat where you were encouraged to use different parts of your kit for specific purposes (eg. Glory Kills for health, Flame Belch for armor, Chainsaw for ammo, etc.) were really smart as they brought more variety to the gameplay and made the combat more purposeful and strategic without sacrificing any of its speed or intensity. If you had asked me at the time, I'd have told you I liked Doom Eternal as much, if not more than 2016... but when I hopped online to look at discussions about the game, a lot of people seemed to think the changes made the combat too restrictive, and the general sentiment seemed to be that Eternal had overcomplicated things and 2016 was the better game overall. Fast forward a few years, and I now find myself looking back on Doom 2016 much more fondly than Eternal, but I can't help but wonder if I'd feel different had Eternal received universal acclaim. I'm very curious to get your takes on this as I imagine you all must experience this a lot more, as you often get to play games before the internet hive-mind has cast its judgement.

Hello Ben and Crew! As a physical therapist, I've seen a variety of injuries from patients who often hurt themselves in the strangest of ways. Do you have your own strange injury story that makes you laugh looking back? For example, my Dad partially tore a muscle in his calf while playing Kinect Sports's Track and Field mode. A little quirk I've noticed about myself: when talking about a movie/show/book that passed me by, it's "I haven't seen/read it." But when it's a game, it's "I didn't play it." Hey, Maxers! With so much of the discourse around the Elden Ring DLC being too difficult, I was wondering, what's the hardest game you've ever played? I'm pretty good at tactical-type games like XCOM or Banner Saga, but I recently played Alien: Dark Descent, and it beat me senseless. Overpowered enemies, levels that lasted way too long, and an incredibly unforgiving autosave system led me to uninstall the game after spending over 20 hours fighting for my life just to make it to the game's 4th chapter out of 13.

Some like From Software may just be a language translation thing while others like 343 or The Coalition seem pretty straightforward as they are named after characters in previous games I believe. Hey MinnMaxers, I want to get your thoughts on the word "Content". I've been thinking a lot about it lately because I hear it often, not only on your show, but really everywhere. I think it bothers me most when it's used in the context of something that I would consider to be art. Sure, call streams, podcasts, or news articles content. But referring to something in the creative arts - including video games - as "content" just feels gross to me; like it's disposable, for people to chew up, fart out, and move onto the next thing. Typically, when people talk about fan communities, they're often listed as the reason why some people avoid a piece of media. What about the opposite, has there been a situation for you where you became interested in a franchise *because* of the fan community? For me, it would definitely be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon community. Old Man Alert: Riven, the once-revered sequel to Myst, has a remake out, available now. I cannot wait to re-visit that world and see if I can actually complete it this time. With Case of the Golden Idol, Chants of Sennaar, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and now Riven coming out in the last few years, it seems we're quietly in a golden age for challenging puzzle games. Zelda's getting as puzzle-focused as ever (Tears of the Kingdom + Echoes of Wisdom), and last year's GOTY, Baldur's Gate 3, is a game you beat with your mind, not your twitchy fingers. I saw the Slay the Princess devs celebrating a second wind for the game this weekend after a lot of buzz for the game after Markiplier started a let's play series on it. SotET dropped down to mixed reviews on steam recently partly due to players complaining that it’s too difficult (I know this wasn’t the only reason though). From games feel special because they typically aren’t compromising; they make the game that speaks to a niche group of gamers knowing that a lot of people will dislike it for the same reasons. Are you worried that backlash like this could make more developers try to appease the masses instead of carving out their own lane?. With games taking so long and costing so much do we think even From will start to adjust their philosophy?

I bought an Xbox last year around Starfield's launch and realized that because of GamePass, I have never actually purchased a game for my Xbox which feels pretty weird seeing as I've owned the console for ~ a year. Hey MinnMax, Have you seen the Nosferatu trailer? I'm so out of the loop I didn't realize that Nosfera-one had already come out. Will you all be watching it, or waiting for Nosfera-three to get the whole trilogy at once?

I would like to submit the movie rrr as the greatest work of art of all time. A theatre here in Portland shows it once a month and I finally made it, calling it an epic is doing it an injustice. Please go see this film if you haven’t!
