That game was such a unique tactics game and had some crazy customization for the guns. Besides all that, the clothes and accessories were truly fire in that game. In Dragon Age Veilguard, I thought it was an interesting note that Bellara functions basically like an FBC agent in Control and she has a vault of their version of AWE's, including the Cheese Wheel from Inquisition which functions as a shield. It ends up being a pretty small note, but in terms of storytelling, what do the Cohorts feel about weirdly powerful artifacts being referenced or even seen in games but then they are fenced off because "Oh, they're unstable/too dangerous"?

Try not to go into the game intending to look for various different creative ways to get across or solve puzzles. Just solve puzzles in the first way that comes to mind. The only exception to this rule would be boss battles. Each boss has ways for you to cheese in kinda sorta a Mega Man fashion. Personally, I enjoyed the game way more by putting the time into exploring every part of the map first before finishing the first “portion” of the game (when it asks you to go to 2 different locations). You get a massive catalogue of stuff to use, find Heart Containers and other bonuses along the way. Be sure to pin spots of curiosity to revisit. You do have a max limit of how many pins you can put on the map, but I never got close to the limit.

Some years ago I was playing the top-down indie survival horror game Darkwood. One mechanic of the game is that you are attacked in your base every night, and on a particularly vicious night I was assaulted by a hideous new monster and droves of zombie-like creatures. The intensity of the attack made me think the room had gotten darker and I could feel a cold wind blowing across my skin from the rush of adrenaline. After the encounter finally ended, I looked up to see that the room actually was pitch black and a cold wind actually was blowing through the open balcony door because I had just played through the 2017 summer eclipse while living near it's strongest point. Hello cohorts, How should one defend and argue for the importance and emotional impact of video games to older individuals? I recently had a discussion with my mom about the impact and power of gaming after she saw the Netflix movie The remarkable life of Ibelin. She said it changed her perspective on how gaming can give you an opportunity to connect and escape from your reality. However, upon discussing it further, she continued to still believe that video games are very violent, do not have much substance and that gamers are not a welcoming community simply based on lack of coverage in the mainstream news. She also says that she feels there are not a lot of resources out there for people to be able to start gaming at a later age. I would love to hear the cohort perspective on how to show older and skeptical people the benefit of gaming and encourage them to participate in the hobby.

Can y'all please recommend a quiet Xbox controller? Why can't anyone else make a digital storefront/game launcher that "just works" like Steam does? Epic, EA, whatever UbiSoft is calling their launcher now half of the time make me re-log in and jump through associated multi-factor hoops if I so much as play a game on a different device once or don't launch the app for a few days. Steam? Just knows who I am and takes me right to my games without a fuss. Has a game being only on a different store dissuaded you from playing something just because the associated launcher was a hassle to get to?

Hey Maxers, With Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s reviews and feedback coming in very mixed, this release kind of has me thinking about Dragon Age Inquisition. Although it did win GOTY for a couple outlets back in 2014/2015, the general consensus around that entry seems more negative than positive. Personally, Inquisition is one of my favorite games of all time and got me thinking: What is your lowest scored/ reviewed game that’s in your top personal favorites or perhaps one that was extremely polarizing like Veilguard? Example: maybe #7 on your top 10 is The Bouncer for the ps2 (metacritic score of 66). Not mine, but it’s the most 6 game I could think of. Love the show!

I find myself playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and thinking how great small side quest moments are for characters and the overall themes and story... but then I wonder, is this just a lame small waste of time for some people? I'm at a point where I'm evaluating more for the overall and might not be able to judge the moment-to-moment stuff as well. How do you guys think about story, more to one than the other?
