I don’t think participating in BDS makes someone less likely to do more actions. In my understanding, any action is a step past no actions, and a step towards becoming more involved in one’s community and the broader world. The decision to cut off something small but pleasurable may not have massive systemic ramifications, but it’s a sort of constant reminder, “there are things in the world greater than my passions, and my existence already isn’t in a vacuum”. There are similar arguments that voting is, for many a sedative, but voting is a one-off action that renews every couple of years. Boycott is sustained, it gives one constant reminders, and to participate in it loops one into a broader community of activists. Learning about BDS means learning about what Palestinians need from their own voices, and I think that is one of the easiest ins for involvement.

The Hit House's cover of "Ordinary World" by Duran Duran has stuck with me for a long time after the Evil Within 2 reveal.

I am very skeptical of the efficacy of decentralized online boycotts, but I absolutely understand wanting to feel able to do something to affect change in your day to day life. I urge people to channel that feeling into connecting and organizing with others nearby where you live, and worry that gestures designed to create as little pain as possible - like avoiding only the underperforming game division of a company that makes all of its money on business applications - might cause someone not to take other more effective actions.
