Very good point! In the story's universe there are not many spacecraft, they are expensive, and most are owned by megacorporations. So they vet prospective crew-families quite closely.

Human Factors destroy a ship. Well... that's the Skylab 4 mission and the infamous Skylab Mutiny. Now, in this case the astronauts were just overworked and revolted against the nonstop requests and mission items. But the idea of using a family for space travel, just reminds me of one good reason you'd need to vet those as well: The Manson Family. Jus' saying.

For the "Algacutlrue Dangers" I'm reminded of a SF story from the 50's (I think) where a disgruntled spaceman spit into the algae tanks, contaminating them. Now, that's just bad design where any Joe Spacejock can spit into the the tank. That implies that they were easily opened and just about any contaminant could get inside. Looking at proposed designs, you'd have to disassemble the system, which would be bad enough, let alone spit into it.
