Good point! Its been a while since I read the Dune series but I seem to remember that they where physiologically incapable of living anywhere but in zero g.

As for Alien Numbers, I remember reading a blog post about alternative mathematic systems, and one idea postulated an alien race that didn't use numbers. Can't find it again, but it was an interesting idea.

Thinking of Clan Ships, wouldn't the Navigator Guild be one from Dune? I got the distinct impression that they lived mostly in space.
