Ummmm, MW is a power rate, kWh is a power amount. The described laser expends power at a rate of 1MW but since each shot is only 0.0005 seconds long, they contain only 0.00277 kWh of power. The battery has 100 shots, so the battery contains 0.277 kWh.

Jet Kitten: Dad, did I read Dr. Campbell right? A handheld laser weapon uses about 1MW per shot? And it's handheld? A Tesla Powerwall stores about 10 kWh and is about a meter by a meter and a bit in size. On there cars, an 85 kWh battery masses in a half a tonne. What are they using to store, say, about 20 shots of power in? Ya know what? Shoot the gun, the resulting explosion will take care of the rest...
