I've seen some novels where the tug does a push, but on the ship's nose, not the radioactive tail.

Jet Kitten: Hmmow... Hull symbols for spaceships? Some would be physical and some would be virtual. Virtual indicators like Center of Mass. Need to know where that is. Physical/virtual markers where Tugs can clamp on. These would be places on the towed ship that are reinforced to take the strain of a tug thrusting through it. As to their placement, forward of the region where the CoM is or behind? Forward you have the issue of tail wagging, behind you're closer to the towed ship's drive. Push or Pull? That's the question. Meow!
