Re. landing an Orion: Would this work? Since you have oodles of delta-V, kill any orbital velocity you have before reentering atmosphere so all you have to cancel is the velocity of dropping the last 160 km down. Set off nukes as needed to keep your velocity from building up too much so the "backflow" from the fireball being stationary relative to the atmosphere is minimal
