Agreed. IIRC the big brain mutations were popular in 1930 scifi, but was mostly passe by the 1960s.

Oh, yes, I demanded these when I was a teen. Because space. Even though they tasted like tootsie rolls with a chalk aftertaste.

One of the things that most SF writers tend to forget is that there needs to be a reason that a random mutation "takes". Bigger brains is one that probably won't happen. We stopped needing bigger brains when we developed "external memory" in the form of art works, music, and writing. If anything, computers have expanded our external memory even more, such that if you're one to propose "If this goes on" type scenarios, our descendants will have very small brains hooked up to massive computers!

I remember Space Food Sticks! They were very chewy, almost doughy in consistency and not very appealing either in appearance or flavor. Still, I remember chowing down on some as a kid.
