IFF is pretty [REDACTED], [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED], but sometimes [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED], [REDACTED]. I think I managed to make what I wanted to say reasonable enough for online.

I worked with the Mark XII IFF system when I was in the Army Air Defense. Occasionally, the watch officer would let one of us input the latest IFF code from a one time use pad/booklet, into the IFF. It was for show mainly, this was in 1983, so while East Germany and the USSR were "just over the hill" there was very little worry that we'd actually go to war. At least that was the feeling in our company.
