Seras

Not at all! I was just flowing really well with GitC, I'll come back to Phantom Star soon!

Anna Turner

Is this dropped?

Eriach

Any update?

Joyeus

Tftc love the story I, love the cabbits, hope to see more. To expand on the whole specialized crabbers idea, modifications that are purely aesthetic, beyond their paint jobs, slowly over time each one becomes a bespoke design. Change the size of limbs, change the material of there shells, that sort of thing. Have some changes be completely unexplainable to a human perspective, two crabbits arguing over a one percent difference in the composition of there shells, one once to increase the length of one of their arms by a tenth of an inch. Also the idea of Sin being followed around by one specific crabbit till she can’t help but fall in love with it is just too cute not to share.

Update story please the wait is killing me.....😭😭

Finally got around to reading this story. A few questions/suggestions: I assume a doctor will be the next cremate recruited, yes? Alongside finally getting a med bay built. How about hydroponics? Prolly need a biologist of some variety for that. Though that might be something for the next hull expansion, once she got her hands on enough medium drives, or maybe even heavies, no idea how big the phantom actually is, so idk if there'd be enough space for hydroponics. Or maybe even aquaponics, though that's even bigger and would likely need a small team of biologists with differing specializations. Upside is you'd get fresh fish with your fresh veggies and could have an aquarium room for recreational purposes at the same time. Also, might it be possible that there are still some Old Earth colony ships floating around as derelicts? Possible with still intact seed vaults and gene banks and all those tools that come with those? Figured it might be nice to have some old favorites available in the hydroponics. And also have those seeds and some cloned critters for when the Phantom gets eventually get big enough to support a biosphere hab. A Terran biosphere would be neat to have, no? lol Though at that point there will prolly be a few dozen crew members. On a different note, what's the drive sizes? So far we got tiny, small, light, medium and heavy. After that I'd assume we get large, super heavy, massive and capital. Beyond those I would think that the sizes aren't really standard anymore and all drives are more or less bespoke, with the "size" being more of a classification, those being: titan(10-100km), leviathan(100-1000km) and world(>1000km). The measures are how big the ships can be for a drive of that class, I'd expect maybe one or two leviathans to exist in the galaxy and they'd prolly only be leviathans by at most a dozen KMs just so that whoever built them can say that they have a leviathan lol. The world classification I would expect to be entirely theoretical at this point. How close did I get with the sizes?

To be clear, the initial pressure difference is all that matters if you're putting a patch on the hole. But the air speed at which air leaves a hole depends on the total volume of air because the pressure difference propagates through the entire volume, allowing the air pressure to stack as all the ships air tries to equalalize. So you feel gentle breeze far from puncture, Stronger breeze as you get closer, with each portion of air picking up speed as it is pushed by expansion of higher presure air behind it while also expanding to push lower pressure air ahead. You could envision it like stacking springs, final spring will be going much faster than any individual spring could push.

This story is so good that I was reading it too late last night, and caught up now. I like the way you are building up an entire setting, and the pacing seems pretty good.

Morog T Tiny

The Crabbits need some sort of improved lifter and power upgrade along with an angled shield guarding their front.

Zenopath (AEV)

It would depend on how much air is being evacuated. An airlock wouldnt be that bad, but an entire ship and the wind would be strong. The expansion of air would accelerate the air at the breach like air leaving a balloon. The total volume of air depresurizing would apply force. After all on earth even hurricanes and tornado are created by tiny pressure differences over enormous volumes of air.

Fun Fact: the pressure differential between a space ship pressurized to sea level and space is only about the same as 30ish ft (10m) under water and the surface. That's a depth someone with no training can reach fairly easy if they just grab a rock for weight. A breach in an actual space ship would actually feel like a fairy gental breeze.

Tan

I think I'm with Sin on this one, I don't think they especially care lol

Darune Albane

True but it would screw with her internal esthetics .. pluss she has no AI linked to her ship so would need to add it for Command and control

HikinBear

I'm seeing the same morality issue that Kate has: Killing an abstract thing like a ship is one thing, killing a Person is something else. They see humans as "People" and they identify with them. To complicate things, killing to protect someone in their "Family" is different. I see them having no issue killing anyone and everyone to protect Kate. The damage to their psyche afterwards, however may be high. I may be making too much out of this, but nascent AI's are weird. I look forward to see how Seras handles this.

ShadeByTheSea

She could also install internal turrets.

ShadeByTheSea

Considering they pull the trigger to blow up ships all the time I doubt they won't be able to. The harder part would be training them when not too. Yes, they are child like, but don't mistake them with human children.

Barkeep

Streamer crabbit are a go

Randall C

So, who wants to introduce crabbits to laser tag?

Mark

All hail our returning crabbit overlords!

Happy

Very nice

MikeL

Headset? Can’t the nano-bots create tiny AirPods in their ears. I want to see some cyberpunk upgrades. At least an internal GUI.

CunnyEnjoyer

Exactly. Kids are often emotionally volatile, especially when they are threatened or hurt. Combined with the fact that kids generally lack an understanding of the real ramifications of killing.

CunnyEnjoyer

You know if Fillian ran a Republic I’d be opposed to going there too XD

Morog T Tiny

I think most kids would have no problem pulling the trigger.

Derek Palm

Yay new chapter

HikinBear

The Captain is forgetting a crucial bit about the Crabbits: Are THEY able to 'Pull the Trigger?'. They're being raised as children. Having the conversation early may be necessary.

CherMi

The Phantom Star got net access from subspace during timeskip! Now waiting for Crabbit to inevitably get addicted to games while everyone else is sleeping.

Duke of Coffee

Family drama~ Hopefully it will be settled before it blows a gasket out of her ship. Crabbits have wheelies! 😆

Just A Dude

It lives! IT LIVES!!!!! Mwahahahahaha!!!

Aclys

Huzzah, moar Phantom Star chappies, om nom nom!

Straven

Another delightful read, thank you. P.s. ....what chance is there being a Jaws like movie for the crabbits to see.....asking for a friend!

Bosparan

Thanks for the chapter! The Crabbits rock! And I sure love Sin's interactions with them. Kind of hoping that's part of a long-running "Getting her accustomed to (and like) them" plan, rather than a "Teasing Sin with the mostly-harmless AI" running joke :)

Freya

Tyftc

Tsume Eiranis

Thank you for the chapter

Delta

Looks like a auto correct error "What is it with the future and boy -hands?- bands?"

dragonslaver

Thanks for the crabbits!

Darune Albane

For the weapon systems for the bots .. how about a helmet type thing they could drive under and "stand up" to put on and remove from a stand .. gives multiple types of systems you could have .. also can have a set of modified hunter bots as a "quick reaction" force to not freak out other humans

Memory Dump

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssₛₛₛₛ

Sullivan

Thanks for the new chapter!

Massgamer

Always love seeing Crabbits get into fun new things, and look forward to their future upgrades. Same for Sin and Hammond growing into ship and reconnecting.

Skarbleface

Thanks for the Chapter
