Kara Nina

Anyone taking out ppl with a bounty or ppl actively commiting a crime gains looting rights and has a right to the bounty. An official, legal contract against another gives the same rights, usually. If the NCPD actually does anything and shows up they get the same rights even if they only show up shortly after everything is over. That is why Motoko hasn't actually broken any night city laws aside from hacking cameras and the laughing man blindness hack at the port. The camera hacks won't be traced because any netrunner who noticed and could have identified her got bribed with debugging. And the mass blindnes prank part of the heist was harmless enough the ncpd doesn't care enough to try and detain someone like her (if she was a weak teen that would have been a different story though).

carebear90

I like the acoustic version more anyway, to be honest. I'd still make it a priority to teach her new band mates how to play the songs she's already finished, but... It's such a great song!

Seras

Sorry bit late. She hasn't yet. She only really did the acoustic version on stage. That'll be a song she needs to work on.

Esotericbill

Totally didn't remember anything about a rogue ai, so I went back and replayed the mission. The only mention about an ai I found was basically a throwaway comment by Johnny, saying he suspected a possible rogue ai, right at the end of the mission. But otherwise, yup, pretty much.

Chet K

Ohh definitely using this to get through my work day tomorrow

Chet K

Has anyone in here been putting together a Playlist of all the songs Motoko has done?

carebear90

I don't remember, did she record a clean version of Everlong yet? Doesn't matter if Rock or Accoustic. Just... something for the eventual album?

Idiot Pigeon

Can’t wait for the rockerboy arc to start, I hope she gets in one of those dogtown high rise parties.

Seras

It's Patreon eating my * marks for radio. I've considered altering it up a few times, Sorry.

RoamingHitbox

Love to have a chapter so soon after the previous one! Though the missing quotation marks on some of the dialog had me lost for a second.

Seras

A type personalities, that are competent, are scary as fuck to my normie brain. The kind of people that are ALWAYS doing something and improving. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Seras

Too much data to store on a personal drive. No, he had an offsite data storage somewhere, but Motoko never managed to track it down.

Seras

It's always Rockerboy, because it's actually referencing a name, James "Rockerboy" Manson, who was basically the first Rockerboy. There is some use of Rockergirl, but I don't really like it. It's always Rockerboy in my eyes because it's a reference basically.

Seras

Also keep in mind, if they're in the Tyger Claws, it's pretty much guaranteed they have Bounties. Like every ganger is going to have an NCPD bounty for SOMETHING. And the NCPD doesn't usually care if it's 'Dead or Alive.'

wanderer117

There was speculation that the Borg sored the data in his personal deck which Motoko didn't rip after flatlining him. I don't think anything was ever confirmed though.

wanderer117

There are two ways to think of it. Martial world and corpo. In the martial world you have civilians and warriors. Anyone that is a warrior is a legit target. They have entered the kill or be killed jungle. Warriors can kill civilians but only in limited situations. What those situations are varies but basically they are expected to hold to a honor code. This is more how gangs view killings. Corpo is about property rights. People have a right to defend their property, including with violence. Since there is no government monopoly on violence this can get fairly broad, but in this case the property owner, Fujimura, hired a security team to protect his property. This doesn't give the security team the right to steal the gear of the criminals, since according to local corpo charter any recovered gear brought by criminals to a crime belongs to the NCPD. This is basically how civil forfeiture works IRL.

lizard King

Maybe that should be here next song Eyel of The tiger.

carebear90

Thank you. I wasn't aware every random gang member was a legitimate target in the eyes of the NCPD. I thought they'd need an actual bounty for that. Interesting. I was more wondering why the crew was allowed to keep any loot at al rather than why the NCPD wanted a cut.

G JP

As mentioned in the story, their merc group 'Section 9' is a legitimate business. So they were executing a legitimate contract against gang members, who the NCPD would consider legitimate targets. However, in Cyberpunk, the NCPD is a profit-driven corporation in its own right, so they want to make money off of this too. So Section 9 has to balance their own profit against butting heads with the NCPD. Something they don't want to do, if they can avoid it, in order to minimize possible future trouble with the NCPD.

carebear90

Can somebody explain the interaction with the NCPD here to me? Why was it ok to kill a bunch of people just because they did it for somebody else? And why were they allowed to take a part of the 'loot', but other parts they weren't? Asking as someone who knows almost nothing about Cyberpunk but this story.

Duke of Coffee

"Don't you hate the NCPD ruining your gig? Have no fear, donate (bribe) your local NCPD detachment for a low price of $500,000 Eddies!" Anyway Gremlin stronk indeed, glad Motoko is going though the Rockerboy (Should be a Rockergirl in my opinion) route, it is going chaos and fun time for her and her crew.

Joseph Schultz

Yes! More Motoko! Love to see Section 9 working like a well oiled machine, even if the fucking cops steal all their good loot. Motoko sniping from 100 feet in the air hanging from a walkway is iconic, and I feel like Fujimura is going to be glancing up a lot more after dealing with Motoko, lol. I'm really enjoying this arc with Motoko and the band, it's really fun to see her become more and more a fixture within her world, rather than just being a disconnected solo. Her getting refunded the adaptation points is interesting, more numbers are always exciting, I'm interested to see if Motoko can find a way to train for adaptation to reclaim some points, or if she's just going to let it happen. More Intelligence is always good, I adore the netrunning and even just coding sections of the story, Motoko needs to get her net grind on now that she has some leveling space to work with. Thank you for the update! This is my favorite story of yours (with vampire Vicky and Phantom Star fighting for second and WotR Vicky in a close 3rd), it's always lovely to get to read more!

chris

Another chapter of my favorite story so soon! Thank you as always for creating such a great and entertaining world!

Heidao

Rebecca: I have a fever and the only prescription is more Carnage *[AGGRESSIVELY COCKS SHOTGUN]*

meatybyte

I don't know, someone that has managed to accomplish all that she has while still somehow finding time for hobbies and goofing off... That sounds kind of scary. It's like watching a 14 year old child qualifying for special forces, becoming a millionaire, a skillful hacker and musician in a few months, oh wait.

TheOne320

Thanks for this. Your chapters are always excellent and entertaining. I just wonder if we will ever get to the main story of Edgerunners or the game.

Robert Apgar

This is a really big chapter getting the adaptation points back is massive.

Bable Zmith

also she can charge more if she tells the client she will, then offer a kickback schedule to not let it out.

Bable Zmith

All I could think was someone tipped them off to the job. Maybe Fulimura is trying to get her to make less so she'll be more dependent on him? I don't know, maybe, it is in the gangster playbook after all. Just like hooking kids on drugs to make a lifetime customer (cough, cough... cigarettes).

Bable Zmith

That was something I was worried about when she got her first cyber. So glad it worked out. :)

STORRM

NICE! always love me some Motoko

Bable Zmith

More human. Not scarier.

Bable Zmith

"I did get like usual an upraised eye as I moved to the room we had rented." should be "I did get, like usual, an upraised eye as I moved to the room we had rented." Punctuation is key.

Day S

Did she ever find all that data from beyond the black wall? I know at some point Yoko wanted the data but it wasn't in the netrunner cave server. Yoko commented the data must have been stored off site.

Aaron Greene

Ooooh! That'd be even better!

Mr Mouse

I think it'd be a poor fit for pure parkour, like Inner Universe had, but once she get's Gun-Fu it'd be ironically bonkers for a Hardcore Henry style parkour/slaughter

Mr Mouse

Not sure what I'm salivating over more, all those lovely Intelligence Skills, or just how many skills are sitting at 9 and primed for a new perk; Either way, great chapter, loved the badass move with minor embarrassment, "No-one can ever know" moment, ditto Fujimura's "Where are you taking this image from?" Also really love that she can recover the adaptation points, which I understood the reasoning behind, especially given she's living this life, it's not just a game, but still hurt my poor min-maxing heart

gedas

It is HEAVILY implied that Night corp/Mr.blue eyes are behind the mind control. And that either the corp is taken over by a rogue ai or that they are using some kind of ai to do the brainwashing. Either way this seems like at least for now is way beyond our girls paygrade.

TheDudeAbides

Is the sentence, "I did get like usual an upraised eye as I moved to the room we had rented." Supposed to say something more like, 'Like usual, I did get an upraised eye as I moved to the room we had rented.'? Or is it correct as is and I need to go back to elementary school?

Esotericbill

I stand corrected. Just realized that during my last playthrough I threw Meredith to the wolves, and the mole came out on top. So I guess it depends how you play it as to whether he gets caught and killed or not.

Just A Dude

Stand Alone Complex, IIRC.

Just A Dude

Of course.

Esotericbill

2 GitC chapters in 4 days...I'm just so happy. Keep up the fantastic work Seras, and thanks for yet another preem chapter.

Seras

Fairly certain the Mole that sold the stuff to Maelstrom was actually the guy that the Militech corpo had in the back of her SUV.... Yep. This guy https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Anthony_Gilchrist Is the Mole. Meredith is actually correct he's the one behind it.

Esotericbill

The flathead drone used by V, Jackie, and T-Bug to get into arasaka during the kompeki plaza heist was stolen from militech due to a mole selling that info to maelstrom. The mole was never found... I don't think it was an ai doing the brainwashing, pretty sure it was a corp...I'd have to go back and check tho.

Mark

Why?

Dr.Dragon

I'll be honest, I completely forgot about her doing that 'Heathens' song last chapter so for some reason, when she said she was doing a song she had thought up whilst hanging out with Tyger Claws, my first thought was 'Eye of the Tiger'.

gedas

And wut would she even do against a brainwashing rogue ai? Thats like end game stuff for when her stats are maxed out, and it'd still be risky.

gedas

What mole?

meatybyte

That is so Motoko, I love it!

Zevi

I like this chapter. Thanks for your writing.

Happy

Very nice.

meatybyte

Haha Makoto you spider monkey fitness nut, only you could think of eating snacks while hanging upside down on a stakeout. You don't even care that you casually perform an inverted jackknife every time you want a sip or a bite, while wearing full battle rattle with chrome arms and bones. God she doesn't even realise how big of a flex that is. I swear nobody but possibly Wakako truely understand how BS Mokoto really is. From decondition amnesiac to peak human badass in what a year?! Plus there are enough eye witnesses to show that Mokoto is really putting in the hours to 'earn it the hard way'. The dedication and strength of will of a demigod as a discriptor wouldn't be too far off the mark from an outside observer. The fact that Motoko is so casual and carefree, and is actually seen goofing off every now and again just makes her even scarier.

Seras

So there is a few things at work. Yes she could burn a skill point and instantly go to 10 Blades. But, that means she'd sort of be wasting a skill point since she can't train her skills in the same way anymore after hitting 10. So her goal is to train to 10, saving the extra skill point.

FjeldraevenFreiden

Yeah I had to read that part a couple of times as well. It was jarring for my immersion even though it is grammatically correct (I think)

Cardio27

Thank you Seras! Loved the chapter! Quick question, it says that she has 8 skill points, doesn’t that mean she could upgrade things like blades to include bullet deflection and other things like that? I feel like she hasn’t opened her skill menu in a while.

Aaron Greene

Yup

Aaron Greene

Yea, its 1000% not a steady rhythm and has a lot of switch ups in there. Imo it would be interesting to sync up those rhythm changes to a hectic parkour flow.

Gilgamesh Archer

As always, thanks for the chapter! Always a delight to see GitC drop.

Seras

She forgot.

Seras

They will shift to a new one.

Seras

Dex is on his 2 year run away from NC. So he hasn't been dealt with.

Meaning Yellow

not enough rythm imo. parkour accompaniement needs more swing

Docnox

Did she do something about Dex yet? I cant remember. Theres also the techno vampires line, and the monks getting kidnapped, has she met adam smasher? Kerry was on a bender for a while befor V shows up. Militec had that Mole that never really gets sussed out. Lots of material to mine out there still. Oh theres that whole mayor and brain washing line that gets left hanging in the game.

Adam Albright

Thank you!

Aaron Greene

Lol,I had to go listen to Heathens. On a side note, Bonkers by Dizee Rascal would fit one of Motoko's free running BDs.

Wolf Man

Is Motoko still doing the BD stuff, because it feels like that got forgotten a little bit; even just a mention of ‘oh, I sent my rescue mission scroll to Judy’ to maintain it. Just curious if it was still a planned part of the story.

runedead56

Oh yes the gremlin brigade. The Strong gremlin carrying the Chaos gremlin while the keeping the Corpo gremlin on her back.

Straven

Thank you for this delightful meal! I took great pleasure in devouring it!

MikeL

So what’s a new Band name? (Not section 9)

MikeL

So when she changes out her Sandy will she get them all back or will they transfer to the new one?

faite kellander

Sensei is going to be furious

Garrett Cannon

I love gigs. I wanna see her record another brain dance at some point.

Adam Daw

Anyone else go and play Heathens while reading this?

Crimson Grave

Trying to make the new bandmates feel the song. XD

Rake1810

loved that she can get points back. Thanks for a great chapter, i like that we got a average kind of gig for Section 9

Fortunis

Hahaha carrying Rebecca around like a little kid is hilarious. Especially since Motoko is a little kid 😆 🤣. That little tidbit about points being refunded is outstanding. Especially since she'll be upgrading her Cybernetics semi regularly. Girl seriously needs to get her Crafting and Engineering up but I'm glad she dropped her point in Intelligence. You can never go wrong with being hyper smart. I'm still looking forward to her cracking Bartmoss's cyberdeck. I'll bet there's all kinds of cool shit on there. Heathens is gonna hit hard on the edge runner scene. Great chapter.

PseudoSim

Numbers make brain go brrrrrr.

Suls

Thanks for the new chapter!!!!

Dominyx Black

Fair

Sami Hautamäki

She is always recording missions, just not giving those to anyone lately.

Martin Banks

It's been a while since we had a big upgrade, and it's nice she gets points back from her chrome

Aaron Greene

Yay!

Dwayne Parker

Spoiled for choice there, Motoko!

Adam

TFTC

Bosparan

Thanks for another preem chapter! Looking forward to the wicked new programming and breaching. Also kind of wondering, when the Quick-Hacks 10 will come around so she can start dumping points (and very much looking forward to the details of just what makes the 11+ special for QH). Any reason Motoko never went ahead and raised Breach Protocol to 13? I mean she learned not to do more than one point at a time, but lots of time has passed - just slipped her mind as she was dealing with other stuff?

FrostyDaHomeboy

Wooo! Thanks for the chapter. Nice to see NCPD actually respond to something for once. I know they don't always but it was feeling almost void without them sucking the fun out at least once. Then the start of the band! Happy progress and good times!

Serina Tsukaya

Motoko STONK!

Dominyx Black

Trying to headcap someone with a NiCola is hilarious. Too bad she missed and she wasn't recording for a BD :P

Nikolina Roganovic

Ah, what a joy to wake up too!

heh

Oh I see I got confused. Thanks for clarifying (:

Seras

No that's right. Hiromi was still on Motoko's back. Then Motoko picked up Rebecca and put her under her arm, so she was carrying both of them. Motoko Stronk.

heh

Preem chappie! Also when Motoko was carrying Hiromi you called her Rebecca near the end of the section
