NES Works 145: NFL & Sky Shark
🕑 Added 2024-10-09 11:49:16 +0000 UTCThis week brings us one of those episodes that filled me with dread when I saw it looming on the production schedule. How on earth am I supposed to find 10 minutes of discussion about these forgettably workmanlike releases, I wondered. But then, I started digging into their creation and—it turns out there actually was quite a bit to be said about the behind-the-scenes of the whole affair. Who knew? Well, you do, now. Thanks to me. You're welcome, I guess. Though admittedly I can't imagine that the information contained herein will ever come in handy in real life for you.

I'll always have a soft spot for Sky Shark as an NES cartridge my dad inexplicably picked up despite not being much of a shooter guy. Never got very far, but what a soundtrack! And now that I've played the arcade version too... what a true-to-form difficulty curve!

Yikes! Do we really sound like that when complaining?

Shout out to the box art on Skyshark as well, I have a boxed copy myself just for that

I'm curious about examples of the unsuccessful Tim Follin imitators?

I always took Sky Shark as another meh game with a cover it doesn't deserve and now I know that it's also a meh game with a soundtrack it doesn't deserve

I figured as much. Cheers :)

It was just more of those sad little paragraph-long previews, so I didn't bother. Next episode will make up for it.

Wait a minute, did Nintendo Power have anything to say? Or did I miss that segment?
