I was messing around with the techniques from this tutorial today and decided to put a very airy melodic pad as the top layer and it sounded amazing 🔥🔥🔥.
Gage Morgan
This is so amazing! 1 tutorial in and I am already so inspired. You guys are freaking legendary.
Shione
Thank u so much guys big love!! :)
LtLobster
Same here, I think the init patch for some reason is saved to have a bunch of things changed. Just double click on everything so that it gets resetted. You'll see that you'll eventually get the same sound, but it might take some time to find all of the parameters that need changing.
Ian Enkema
Ableton changed the default operator preset from the time this was made. I had this same problem in the school of bass with AU5, so I made the old one if you need it. And also just make sure your doing additive synthesis (squares horizontal) for this video, not fm.
Toryn
It just depends on your Operator settings. If you can post screenshots of your Operator settings in Discord, we can diagnose what parameters to adjust.
Shione
is there anyone knowing that why saw sounds different? My operator sounds different when I play basic saw waves...
Chris Hughes
i'm two tutorials in and this is already the best content i've seen for music production on patreon. These techniques give us the tools to get creative and most importantly, have fun :)
Ethan
My thoughts exactly
Trialhero
I'm late to the Patreon train and 1/4 of this video alone was worth it 10 fold. Thanks so much.
A Real Tal'darim
I am doing this tutorial on FL studio and the explanation is so well done that I could follow the turotial even tho I dont have any of those plugins. Very good video! Having to work my way around FL to do the same thing you were doing really helped me understand more the functionalities of my DAW. I would recommend this tutorial even if you are using FL Cubase or Bitwig or what not, if you understand the chain of effects he explains I can assure you you can recreate it in any DAW. Again very well made tutorial, Thank you Koan Sound!
The Great Danish
Classically trained boi here. Really appreciate the work you do here and your music. I wanted to get more into music production and getting to better understand the process, sound design and how it all comes together to form a coherent mix. Not disappointed with this at all. I really wanted to create sounds like these, since I was introduced to you guys, and was wondering how it was achieved. Gonna have some crazy fun experimenting with this. Thank you so much!
Ncrypt
Top notch stuff!
Peter Vogl
Just joined and working my way through...definitely not disappointed.
wt af
very sick. thanks for the awesome tutorial
Blu Posner
Yes this is awesome! Really like the use of glide, I used to use pitch bend in the clip view it doesn’t half as clean as this.
Aeon Drone
So inspiring thank you!
FBWOT
This is amazing, thank you so much for being so giving, seeing your process is incredibly inspiring !
Christopher Matthews
Do you have a separate track for your sub bass when finalizing a song? if not, how do you control the phasing introduced from the second detuned layer? or how do you control the sub from track to track
seshin
this is incredible. Thank you so much
GRIMAGE
Wow, this is on a whole nother level... Love it!
Screamarts
nice one ! :)
Eystein Askevold
I love this !. Hands down the best tutorial in Ableton i have seen yet.
Francis Ciroi
crazyyyyy!
Ryota Lore
I can't thank you enough, I'd been trying to figure out how to do it from your reddit AMA post, but this explains it so much better. The track I'm working on has been transformed by the new bass using this tutorial.
Tom W
If there are any Reason users in here I have created a Combinator patch based on the principals in this video that you can ReSample straight in to. Hit me up on Discord @TepidMilk if you would like the patch! Peace!
Austin Moore
This was really interesting! Took some good notes. I would be curious to see a vid about work flow. Sometimes I drive myself nuts with a project because I hear it too much. It also takes me a really long time to feel finished with a song.
Timon Wawreczko
I would also see something about the Mix. Your music has a lot of sounds but still every sound sounds very clear in the mix. Would love to see some insight.
Akuro (James)
This is amazing!!! Super insightful. I’d love to see a project breakdown! Or would love to hear about your mix down and/or creative process.
Ewan J Colvin
that was awesome! I reckon a video on the way you guys layer your foley on top of these basses/your drums would be a great follow up vid
Luke Perry
Would deffo love for you to explain the kick and sub being one whole part thing too. Haven’t quite wrapped my head around that
Luke Perry
How to approach processing sides in a creative way (basses , drums) I feel a well explained video would clear up a lot of fuzz. Also would love to know how you approach using foley in your tunes ? :) appreciate what your doing guys. Legends !!!
Austin Moore
dude, yes. i love Beyond The Shadows!!
Kevin C. Holmes
Legend. Didn't quite catch what you meant by splitting the frequency bands from your reddit AMA. I Made a rack with a Fabfilter Brickwall EQ' slicing it up into 3 segments with macros but this makes a lot more sense.
Some Guy
Y'all are god tier for sharing your experience, thanks much.
Stewart Whitworth
Well this just changed my world! Nice!
Ian Valentine
Excellence
Dan Wright
Absolutely amazing! In the future I'd love to see how you made the drums in starlite - are they purely recorded in or are they using VST's/samples you find etc. How to get that real organic yet perfect feel on them! Would also LOVE to see a track breakdown of beyond the shadows, how you made those really nice low warp basses and all the little snippets of interesting sound!
Alex Marais
This is amazing, cant wait for more!
Eystein Askevold
Thank you so much for this. this is worth the 10USD alone. i switched to ableton a while back and i see this. OFC i will become a patreon member !!.
NOTOK

SCW

Do you guys use chorus? I know it fucks up the stereo image but would be very interesting to know!
Johann Koehnen
@Gypsyndicate haha yes definitely heavy inspiration! I even teach Sound Design and got hella new ideas from this
Kai
Geniuses! Thanks so much
Gypsyndicate
Think I learned more in this video than the previous year of sound design.

STEALTH_DUBZ
its crazy how much i learned from this
Timon Wawreczko
Very Nice. Now please someone translate this into FL Studio or PhasePlant. Please.
Dawncall
i learned so much
Dan smith
Nice one! Clear and succinct and super easy to follow. 99.9% of youtube videos exploring sound design need to be deleted now you guys are on this. They're always filled with so much waffle. Love how simple you just made that! Top work.
Shru-ti
wow
Nathaniel Parrott
jeez that turned out really tight
Stickybuds
Dope tut guys. Stoked to be here.
Ian Vernon
Great job! So many tutorials show a 'how to create this sound', but without explaining the how or why certain parameters are modulated in certain ways - this helped me learn, rather than just showed me how to do one specific thing. So cool how this was done with all stock plugins (apart from the reverb).
ryan
holy shit that vocoder trick is amazing
Adam Partington
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
Nisha
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Can't wait to see what is in store as y'all upload more.
Kilian Kofler
also i am really curious about your guys foley design. hwo your process it and maybe even how to record nice foley.
AsteraEDM
this was nuts, i'm definitely going to implement these ideas in my future sound design
ELEMEK
Thanks for the upload guys
joe riley
This was fantastic!
Volatide
Thanks for the insightful tutorial! Topics I'd love to see: Drum/mixbus compression, foley layering, EQing/mixing sounds, reverb philosophy, stereo imaging tricks, outboard gear/recording practices, chord progressions/voicings, arrangement philosphy
Kilian Kofler
i would love to hear you talk about workflow.
Voltone
A mixing tutorial would be amazing!
Mark Cummings
This was a great bass tutorial... Amazing!
Mark Cummings
I would absolutely indeed love to see a video on the garage 2step sound... Sorry for the double post... I accidentallyI posted this request on an earlier post..
Carson Carr
priceless
Tom Jones
Incredible, excellent tutorial!! Thanks so much!
Aznadel
Oh my goddddd so stoked to check this out
Bart van den Broek
Beautiful! Do you also ever use Logic? I would love a video on it if you do. Otherwise I'm gonna have to branch out to Ableton, because this would open so many doors. Thank you!
Isaac Liekens
Very interesting, what a creative way to play around with just a simple bass sample! As a suggestion I'd love to see a in depth video of the way you guys approach beatmaking, the processing, everything you wish the share with us. (example: "Viridian Dream & Chilli Daddy") <3
nowfeel
Love the quality of the tutorial! Very easy to follow along and appreciate the extra effort❤️
Egor Poplevka
Amazing tutorial! Thanks!
Lucid Frequency

Guiliem Sibelium
Just perfect! Thnx for sharing this tecnics !
George Ramsden
Extremely informative! I obviously don't doubt your capabilities as producers, but happy to say you're equally as proficient in the making Production Tutorials as you are at making music. Can't wait for more!
Maitri
incredible
Slade McBride
Dope stuff thanks guys
James Smith
Awesome video, I like that you only used ableton stock plugins (except for the reverb) to get this sound.
Gonzalo Cardin
Thanks for sharing guys! wanted to see your process for a while now
Dylan Pounder
This was so helpful. thank you so much
Dylan McCauley
I havent watched this yet but I am so excited holy shit
YOKAI
I would like to request a mixing tutorial with Pro Q and mixing things in a stereo field
Vayre
this is so crazy useful. much simpler (pun intended) than i expected aswell. thanks a ton
Stasys Musial
crazy how you're able to transform such a simple base-sound into this complex bass, really inspiring <3
