Spud, Bill - you boys say you want to learn about finance or economics - here's a good, not too long pod that explains "money printing" from a good source, George Gammon. George, I believe dropped out of college, has never taken an economics course at a school, yet has taught himself all about money and how to make it (he's a millionaire who basically does what you and Bill try to do, buy lower cost residences and then remodels them and then sells or rents them). He also, with Alex Jones' friend, attorney Robert Barnes, is suing the Federal Reserve to audit them - something that Ron Paul had suggested yet these guys are currently working on it (long process and the judiciary involved are slow walking it). Anyhow, this is a good simple description on how the banks are the ones who create money, not the Fed ("money printer goes brrrrr," is not really the deal).
