There are some animation tools that can take motion capture from video by using the same kind of reference nodes. You basically create an animation skeleton using these nodes and the software attempts to interpret the 3d space from the 2d scene. It's similar to how the animation engines in VR games work.

At some point, I would be fascinated to hear what the "motion capture" entails. I usually only think of that as a AAA studio or major motion picture tool.
