The gateway stones were now approaching, and she knew there would be just 20 meters' swim through the gate and 50 meters up toward the surface, and she will be breathing again. How long has she not breathed? Nine minutes? Ten? She must yet keep her pace, as a strain in her body would immediately send her diaphragm convulsing - and she would draw in water and drown. And there would be no one that could dive that depth and save her.
Islanders thought, it was the sacred blood and blessings from gods that enabled the Dive of the Priestess; actually it was hard work, talent, and a precarious balance of youth and experience. Saki's mother first was able to do it at age 17; Saki was proud that she beat her by almost two years.
As the silent swim continued, Saki suddenly noted a voice inside her head.
Voice: <<Saki.....?>>
Saki: <<Who...is this....?>>

Seem she already has the body she needs to get to 200 metres (at least as far as breath-hold time is concerned), see https://www.patreon.com/posts/wanting-better-21001228 - unless she doesn't just want to grab a tag and head back up but wants to be able to explore wrecks and such like at 200 metres. That would indeed be quite something...

When you start hearing voices underwater, you just know something wild is about to happen...

Now I want to see some stories of her mother too

I’m glad to see this story continue, and at least one of my questions answered. But now I’m wondering, what happens when she gets to the surface AFTER an 11:30 to 12 minute breath hold? Does she use a raft, like the cousins, or is she such a badass that she literally swims to the dive spot, completes the ritual or explores or whatever, resurfaces, and just floats on her back to regain her strength?
