The focus here is on maximizing breathhold time as opposed to buoyancy control, this the ankle weights...Ken is a pleasure diving instructor so his lessons lean toward fun whereas Eri is geared more to pushing limits...true, Chihaya’s will power exceeds her body limits so she is always at risk of self-drowning - which just means she needs additional training :-) And yes they both made new records.

Why are the cousins using ankle weights? To sit on the bottom without exhaling? I thought they could already do that back in AGVsG 64. It also looks like we lost Chihaya, so how does she get back up without help (Aya is clearly struggling, and even carrying someone such a short distance would likely drown her too) and why hasn’t Eri noticed? Did she “drown” without exhaling again? Finally, which girl set a new record, or was it both?
