Well I wasn’t arguing about if she was closer to her mother or not. Just that Saki probably got her ability to hold her breath underwater for so long from her mother. Because we have seen her do one of the sea maiden ritual before when she did swim down to an shrine and pray for a while then emptying her lungs. So again I think that the parent who was a sea maiden would have a better breath hold abilities then a naval officer. Especially when it comes to passing down the ability cause the sea maiden roll seems to be passed down from generation to generation.

While I admit there’s a strong case for a connection to her mother, Saki herself seems uninterested at best. Meanwhile, there are sentimental pictures of her in the pool with her father (in a suspiciously similar bikini top, no less); she’s claimed that instead of passion, like the cousins, she dives purely to “find” him (whatever she plans to do afterward is unclear); though it appears both parents are missing, we’ve heard of nothing about a desire to remember or retrieve her mother; and lest we forget, this is the second time that we know of that she seems to be willing to drown in a wreck that isn’t remotely connected to any Navy operations all because she feels closer to him here. So while The Shrine Maiden’s parental relationships are certainly intriguing, there’s more evidence for an attachment to her father, which is why I’d like a little bit of focus on that first.

Yeah I think that Saki most likely got her breath holding abilities from her mother. Seeing how she also was a sea maiden

Maybe the cousins had more confidence in their abilities after their training with Eri? And yeah that could be wholesome to see Saki's relationship to her father

So it turns out that refusing to resurface in a vain attempt to challenge the unknown limits of another diver (Saki) who’s been a better breathholder from the start is a bad idea. Who knew? I’m loving Chihaya’s expression and bubble pattern, though. I’m still waiting for some kind of flashback to Saki’s dives with her father, too.
