🕑 Added 2023-07-29 13:00:03 +0000 UTCI've recently heard that the U.S. is often times "benevolently ignorant" of other nations, while the other nations are "malevolently cognizant" of the U.S. I side with this argument. While the others are keenly watching America and reflecting what move would work best in their interest, America assumes that things are pretty cool with the others (at least the "Western" buddies it believes to share values with), although the specifics slip its mind.
True, while one awkward remark from the U.S. President (reportedly indicative of dullness or cognitive decline or whatever) gets televised and commented all over the rest of the world, the opposite is hardly true. I was once sitting at a bar in Toronto and groups on my both sides were discussing American politics. If bar-goers in Chicago or Milwaukee were similarly debating what was going on in Ottawa at the moment, well, I'd be da*ned.
Maybe the U.S. is such a large and diverse country (geographically and ethnically) that it's difficult for its people to think beyond its borders. Either way, my message is not that the U.S. should be as cunning and shrewd as its older buddies - America, we like you just the way you are.

Ah sorry, as I reread this post it seems the last sentence was misleading. "We" here in this case refers to longtime U.S. allies like Japan (where I am from and live currently) and South Korea. There are hardly any debates about our ties with the U.S. being any different from how they are right now, so I didn't think this would be a political discussion. :-)

True, albeit maybe other countries should become more independent then... In my opinion the one good thing that came out of Trump is that it made us in the EU clear that we may not be able to rely on the US forever and thus have to improve owr own unity economically as well as miltirarily. It is not being done with huge anouncements because there are critics of this, but the EU has got a few steps closer to its own united government in the last 6 years (despite some wrenches in the machine like Viktor Orban).

I think a lot of idiots on the internet, who hate the US, because reasons, don't understand, that the second China or someone else takes over as the world's hegemon, they will want the US back pretty badly. China won't be this nice and chill.
