Oh don't underestimate your talent Andy, your work is fabulous! What you do with your pinups, re simplifying the background and adjusting the lighting on your main subject, is what I do with my photography. It's really nice to get comments, as from Capt'n Frydog, that recognize and praise your efforts.

That's great feedback, much appreciated! Some of my recent thinking about how to improve my work has revolved around worrying a bit less about anatomy, and let my characters be a bit more "doll-like" if need be. They're exaggerated cartoons, after all. The intent is then to put more effort into controlling the light and dark values, in a simpler but more deliberate manner to hopefully make a stronger image. For instance, I tend to "go on autopilot" when rendering hair, but as you noticed, here I made sure to avoid putting big highlights on the shadow side of her hair and left them for the light side. I know I've got a long way to go, but it's good to hear that I might be on the right track!

I also really like the interplay of light and dark. It really looks like the viewer is in the dark woods and Kelsie is just on the edge of a sunny clearing. The highlights, especially in her hair, contrasting with the shadows where she's still in darkness look great! A little sense of mistiness, like it's still early in the morning. Really well done!
