You're killing it with the reactions and analysis! I love the subtle scene where Himmel sadly looks down after Voll tells him his reason for defending the village. I think he sees how Voll is bound, burden, and isolated by that promise; it might be the exact moment he decides to never explicitly declare his love for Frieren as he doesn't want her to suffer in the same way.
