GammaOS Next v1.2.2 is now officially available for the Anbernic RG DS and this release is a proper quality jump for anyone using the device as an actual “DS-first” handheld.
I’ve wanted the RG DS experience to feel less like “two screens running Android” and more like a real dual-screen console you can actually live in, and I think we’re finally landing there. 🙌

⚡ Lite vs Full (quick and honest take)
Both are included in the download, but I’m going to be straight with you:
✅ Lite is strongly recommended on RG DS
It runs smoother, stays snappier, and feels more “console-like” overall.
⚠️ Full includes Google Services
It works, but it slows this device down enough that it takes the fun out of it for most people.
If you want the best “pick up and play” experience, go Lite.

This update is all about making the RG DS behave like the device it’s meant to be.
✅ Fixed the 40 Hz bug on the top screen
Both screens now behave properly and match the refresh characteristics you’d expect from a real Nintendo DS style experience. No more weird mismatch vibes.
✅ DualStack support is here
This is a big one. You can make apps behave like a single-screen experience when you want, instead of fighting layouts that were never designed for dual displays.
Long-press the DualStack Quick Settings tile to tweak the settings. 🧩
✅ Fixed Drastic secondary screen latency (DualStack)
Touch and secondary screen response feels noticeably tighter now, especially when you’re running DS-heavy titles.
✅ Performance enhancements for Drastic
Less overhead, smoother frame pacing, and better responsiveness in actual gameplay.
✅ Touch panels now run at 120 Hz ✨
This makes touch motion feel way smoother and more “premium”, and it genuinely helps with DS gameplay where you’re dragging, tapping, or doing quick stylus-style input.

Hey guys, have anyone noticed a battery drain issues? I've seen that if I put it on sleep mode, the baterry goes down a lot, why is that? Should I just turn it off for the night if I'll not use it?

Hello, I made a bootable SD Card (512gb) via Rufus and the GammaOS Lite version, but the RG DS will not flash, it just starts up to its original OS. Any ideas on this?

wifi picks and chooses when it wants to work. this has been a thing on stock and gamma. ive seen others posting similar wifi issues, some resolve by clicking the reset in the wifi options. for me if it doesnt return network results it wont work. I have to reboot several times and get lucky

Sometimes when I close a ds game the both screens show the launcher and only the upper screen respond to touch. Didn't find any way to fix it, only by restarting the device

Hey Gamma, I'm trying to remap the Anbernic button on the RG DS. Where can I go for that? I've tried under the buttons settings, but it's still bringing up the notification panel

For those who are having issues with the device not booting, after a fresh install or after a crash, try unplugging the battery and plugging it back in.

I've got the same problem a couple of other people have mentioned. It rebooted to an orange Anbernic logo and sticks there. I can't reflash Gamma or the original firmware. Think I'm bricked.
