I don’t understand why Mark thinks it’s such a foreign idea that most Americans have never met a Jewish person; If Jewish people aren’t even 2.5% of the population that means in most states they probably not even 100,000 Jewish people total, you spread that across the entire state especially in rural areas there’s 90% chance that more than half of the state has never met a Jewish person. Especially if a majority group together inside of a community or one city that leaves almost every other place in the state with no Jewish population for someone to even meet or interact with. Go look at a map of the census, there’s around 30 states that have 0 to 2% Jewish population, they’re mainly spread around the states surrounding New York, Florida by itself in the south, two states around California and Chicago/Cleveland are the only places in the Midwest with a significant population and it’s not even 3% of the state. There’s a fair chance 40% of the people in Marks friend group or family from Florida have never even met a Jewish person how is it laughable to think that most people in America have never met a Jewish person?
