Do you think publicly funding something makes it not capitalism? The point is that the biomedical research capacity exists partially *because* it is very lucrative to make discoveries in medicine. Take away the profit-incentive and a second-order effect is less research and development, and that is an undisputable fact.

That not true, the work and funding that created the MRNA technlogy is all publicly funding. There would not have been all the base knowledge needed to create the vaccine with out publicly funded research, the vaccine was already at the 1 yard line before any American companies got involved.
