I think as a gay dude what straight guys don’t get about women’s reactions to the jokes you guys made with the British guys is that men of diverse backgrounds use jokes like that as a sort of bonding and mechanism whereas women use them as a sorting mechanism. You see with us guys - laughing through disparaging jokes or “taking the piss” out of something is how we see if you’re cool enough to take it on the chin. It’s a bit like rough housing or playing no rules half court 2 on 2 🏀 ball. Doing it and not complaining in the process is how men bond. Now, as a gay man, I can say that women do not process or bond through jokes in the same way. Some do, but it’s generally rare, and the opposite is true. Women will just sort of stay quiet and naturally sort out friends with jokes like that which come at the expense of groups they like or such. Or it can turn into a cat fight right in the moment. It’s not uncommon for a group of women to be cool - one person push a red button and the whole group end up in disarray.
