The xps foams that I've used are all the same on all surfaces. But this could change depending on manufacturer. If you can only find stuff that seems to have a hard surface you may be able to slice off a thin layer to remove that part.

Hej! Just one small and fast question about your XPS-Foam: Is a block of it the same density/hardness all over or does it have a harder surface? I am trying to find a good one where I live (Austria) but hardly any XPS Foams have smooth surfaces, and those that do are kind of hardnened... Thanks for your time!
