🕑 Added 2022-05-16 05:47:03 +0000 UTCQuiet week, huh? But not an entirely unproductive one - just not in regards to my usual type of work. I do appreciate your patience during that time, seeing as I wasn't providing a lot of what you're actually supporting me for (but perhaps my previous productivity the last few weeks makes up for it).
Of course the plan is to eventually build an Elayne game, but I'm just focusing on creating a working engine based on Castlevania (as close as I can get), so I can use pre-made assets. I've dabbled with GameMaker before, but I fell out of it.

Getting the stairs to work this time was even harder than before...
Anyway, that's it. Just showing you what I've been working on so you aren't in the dark wondering why I'm stealing your money or something.

Very cool! And dedicating time to a longer-term project is a-ok to me.

Yeah, I think an occasional update every or so often could be something cool. Maybe something like the old Dreams updates where you posted little details as you got the hang of it. Game dev stuff is tough but I definitely believe you can do it.

It'll probably be a while before the Elayne stuff starts taking shape within this particular project. While I am focusing on the engine first, I'm still a bit inexperienced, so translating the nuances of Castlevania is tricky. Like, the player character ignores collision with blocks above their head - but I'm not sure how I can do that without also turning off collision in general, which means I can jump through blocks in the wall too. Lots of tricky problems to solve with my limited knowledge! But I think it'd be cool to show progress updates over time - though I don't know how I'd ultimately do that since I'm not used to presenting this kind of work.

Cool to see you working on game dev stuff again! I'd love to play an Elayne game so I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes along between your other projects.
