Death note for staring out it's a nice short series, not that deep but also really entertaining and has a good plot

Jonas JΓΈrgensen

- Death Note (serious and deep, short story) - Hajime No Ippo ( good especially if you're into boxing) - Naruto (Best Anime Oat imo, good starter anime even though long) - Vinland Saga (Deep well written)

As a bookseller in a comics and manga store, I can offer you classics that never disappoint: Berserk: The Netflix version, divided into three animated films. It's the best dark fantasy manga, very mature, with complex and deep characters and a moving story. The three Netflix films represent the first phase of the story and are a very good introduction to the world. Parasite: Also on Netflix, there are about ten episodes, I think. It's also a manga classic. It can be watched in a few hours. The anime has a very good adaptation of the manga. Everything is good, but it's also very mature. Monster: A classic, nothing more. I don't want to say more. In my bookstore, it's listed in the "must-read" section, because that's what it is. Devilman CryBaby: And a manga that inspired many others, including Berzek and Parasyte. I think the Netflix version has 12 episodes, however, be careful which version you watch, make sure you watch the right one. The animation seems special at first, but we quickly forget it given the quality of the story.

*if you're doing this for reaction content your demographic is probably already millennials so Berserk, Death Note, and Champloo would probably do well. Death Note was basically the defining anime during the late 2000s scene girl/emo boy culture lol

God weebs are the worst. Recommend their favorite show instead of what they think the guy asking would like lol Serious shows: Ghost in the Shell Ergo Proxy Steins;Gate Samurai Champloo Berserk Sonny Boy Akudama Drive Death Note Death Parade Monster Terror in Resonance ^these shows generally avoid the chibi shouting, spastic, fan service heavy scenes that alienates newer anime fans who are older than 14.

Dragon ball is great. Goofy at some times but also serious.

Demon of Empire

Dragon Ball Starts off goofy but gets more serious as it goes.

Vinland saga another really good one

Trippy87

Check out Parasyte!

Briana Bonner

If you’re starting out I’d say death note.

RogueSpartan113

Devil May Cry (the one that Netflix has released.), Naruto, Death Note.

Demon Slayer

DARKER THAN BLACK. Very very underrated anime. Without giving anything away, Ppl have powers, and when they use those powers they have to "pay a task" Like 1 guys uses his ability and then at some point he has to put stones in rows or something happens. Really worth the watch

RedPanda

Death note, Gurren lagann, Vinland saga and if you liked cowboy bebop you can watch Samurai Champloo from the same creators

- Elfen lied. (Short and dark as f*ck.) - Full Metal Alchemist. - BT'X. - Yu Yu Hakusho. - Death Note. I would recommend watching with the original japanese audio and subtitles.

Death note is a must

Monster , sub is on Netflix dub is available free on YouTube It’s about a neurosurgeon who is wrongly accused of murder and him basically investigating and tracking down the person who is really the murderer. Super fucking good. Only 70 ish episodes. I’m almost done.

For a beginner Death Note is the best! πŸ’― Not too long and it's amazing, you are hooked instantly. Also if you prefer serious this is just the thing for you.

Full metal alchemist/Hellsing Ultimate/ Vinland Saga

Yu Yu Hakusho ( English Dub (just trust me) ) but only up to the β€œDemon World” arc, it gets rushed and ruined after that

ConfusingFool93

Attack on Titan for sure, by the ending of the show you'll be left feeling complete. It's super serious, season 1 has some anime tropes but seasons 2 and beyond drop the anime tropes which is why a lotta people would recommend it as a great starter anime. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UojEfrt9gifobDYdIHgAc1_PG-m0-UcW?usp=sharing I spent 6 months making this cut of the show (English dub) for people who wanted to binge episodes but were tired of skipping the intros all the time. (don't worry it still has the intros and outros but obviously I've spliced the episodes together to make it more convenient to watch multiple at a time)

Berserk, either the 99 anime or the Memorial edition on Crunchyroll, both bangers

WiredLearner

Death note is a fantastic beginner friendly anime, and is on the more serious side. It's also a good length with the full story being 36 episodes
