🕑 Added 2021-10-07 13:19:32 +0000 UTCjust wanted to write a quick update to say that we're postponing the next Patreon ep on the Great Stirrup Controversy to next week (week of October 11). unfortunately, Eleanor is feeling a bit under the weather and we can't make 2 episodes work this week. we will be publishing a regular episode tomorrow, it's an interview with Dr Alex West about Medieval Indonesia tomorrow but the Patreon ep will have to wait until next week.
also, we will be starting a series on the rise, dominance, and fall of feudalism next week. so we will be looking at why the world moved to feudalism, what it means as a historical mode of production, and the eventual its fall after the end of the Medieval era. we're very excited and know some of you have asked for this!

I have some thoughts/questions on your Gawain and the Green Knight review: 1. In the Christmas feast scene, Arthur basically says “the seat to my right is empty, it’s usual occupant is absent. Come sit next to me Gawain”. Do you think the missing occupant is Lancelot? 2. There was an end-credit scene! Sorta… during the last 20 seconds of the credits, the black background lifted, and you could see a small toddler who appeared to be a girl could be seen playing in some bed chambers. It seemed to me to be a hat-tip to Gawain doing the right thing by his lover. 3. You didn’t talk about how the depiction of Bertilak’s castle was much more late medieval (or maybe even early modern?) than the very middle middle-ages of Camelot’s depiction. But I guess that’ll come up in the Patreon episode?
