New Video: Sleeping Position

Sure was nice realizing the benefits of side-sleeping early in life, deciding as a kid for not wanting to end up snoring like my mother. Minor anecdote: Lately I've been sleeping on the floor, no bed, but having no pillow at all forces me to sleep with my shoulders twisted face-down into the floor, as it's too uncomfortable trying to use my shoulder/arm as a headrest. This causes numbness in my thighs from pinched nerves in my hips, but when I have a pillow/headrest tall enough to put my shoulders vertical, the issue is avoided. At that point I'll tend to angle my shoulders (which are also fairly broad for my age/sex/height) backwards, as if wanting to lean back against something, which reminds me of how I spent several years sleeping in a papasan. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly how comfortable it used to be sleeping in one, but I've been meaning to purchase one rather than the typical bed, as it's very easy to sleep sideways (and curled up) in. They also retain heat well. Edit: Didn't notice the better mic, but on second look you're sounding pretty crisp and clear!

Another avenue of research on how to change sleep position is related to sleep position in pregnancy. Back sleeping in the second half of pregnancy is not recommended for medical reasons including pressure on the vena cava, so there is a lot of advice out there targeted specifically at those women which you may not have come across. One common tool is a wedge pillow behind the back and another pillow between the legs. The need for pillow between the legs is theoretically due to relaxation of the pelvic joints and ligaments, so is not necessary for the non-pregnant. However given modern sedentary lifestyles, I would guess that most people would find support in a pillow between the knees when trying to train themselves to side sleep - perhaps add that to your experiment...
