Very bad example but should be enough to illustrate the conflict.

Imagine a distopic future where there is just not enough oxigen for everybody to breathe in (not entirely a new idea, I know). At that point, I could envision the appearance of political groups that consider vegetarianism a threat to the survival of the species. Since plants are responsible for replenishing our oxigen supply, the more plants you eat the less oxigen we will have. Vegetarians may argue that the nutrients found in plants are necessary for a healthy diet (at that point in time, all the cattle in the world will have already been killed because they were consuming the same oxigen that was so precious for humans). Extreme ogixenalists argue that nothing is more important than oxigen and therefore it's ok or even desirable to reduce the amount of plants that we eat even if that means that we won't have the same levels of energy, or be able to regenerate our body tissues as quickly. But nobody is looking at the data: how much oxigen do edible plants actually produce compared to all the forests in the planet and all the algae in the oceans? Is it even reasonable to think that we need to choose between one and the other?

Really appreciate the unbiased look at this topic. Though to some it may appear as biased towards meat-eating, it's pretty clear that it's just because of how our bodies work
