No worries, I understood what you meant. Addressing the magic, he's quite limited in what he can actually do. Unlike other magic systems where they just hand you spells, in this world its much more convoluted through the use of glyphs. Also, unlike Mia, the magic prodigy she is, Xavier is severely disadvantaged compared to her other than his massive mana pool and magical power. In not for Spell Formation, he wouldn't even be able to use magic so easily. (Plus he already has created the spells he could with Shadow Magic's currently available glyphs, and was using them in this battle, I just didn't specifically say so, but described the effects visually.) As for his aura, its strength is not in an offensive way but purely defensive. Of course, as a result of its unnatural innate power, it's much stronger than others but not necessarily enough to do actual harm against others of the same level and power. Instead, with his trait, A Sovereign's Undying Wall, it's like an impenetrable wall rather than a battering ram. Hope that explained everything. :D

Haha I wasn’t saying you were lacking creativity in your writing the scenes.. I don’t think in terms of the experience he has and the self-taught style he could do any better right now. I’m just pointing out his weaknesses as a combatant. Possibly he needs to look once again into his magics and try and take inspiration from the various visions he saw when choosing a path and try to replicate certain things, also he could actually come up with some legit shadow spells rather than just manipulation , he could also try and leverage his aura more and find ways to use it more actively in battle situations because it’s obviously levels ahead of most at his level.

How/what else could he have done that would be effective enough to warrant him to use it? He is indeed inexperienced in any formal fighting instructions as he's merely relying on self-teaching, but other than that, I don't really see what else he could've done here. It might seem that he has a lot of utility, but remember much of all that is actually passive in reality. But I might've missed something, so do you have any ideas as to how he could've fought differently? Would love to hear, :D

MacDB

I feel Xavier is really lacking in imagination for battle, I mean he has so much utility available and he just pulls the same moves over and over - he needs some proper instruction, or some sort of battle epiphany.
