There have been. A second trigger is a recontextualization of a power to save the parahuman, it often draws upon nearby triggers to act and can take out the limits on a power, but it also can have unintended consequences. As an example, grue's second trigger made his darkness slower. It's also teorized by cauldron (but never proven) that Taylor had a double trigger (One trigger after the other) because of the horror of her power, so it may be that her range was bigger or that she could better share her insect's senses before the 'second trigger'. Anyways, another thing that was canon is that, if for some reason a parahuman can't use his power, that power could change to allow use. For example, Valefor very likely needed eye contact to use his powers but, after losing his eyes, his voice became stronger, bypassing the need for eye contact. This is basically what happened to Vista, Anakin blocked her power, so her shard shifted it to work again when in a situation where a double trigger could be possible. (I didn't manage to hit that "Second trigger" despesperation quite right)

Was her power nerfed or did it develop a second aspect? Like if Anakin removes his block will she gain both the old range and the new lowered limits and speed? Or was it a permanent change? If it did not expand, then I don’t think it counts as a second trigger, it would be more along the lines of an adaption or a retrigger? Not sure. I don’t think there are any cases where a second trigger nerfed any aspect of a power (I could be wrong though, I skipped a decent chunk of canon).

I look forward to the next release! I wonder if/when anakin gets back with Dinah, not them living together but at least back to the master/apprentice thing. Maybe taylor becomes an apprentice? So many posibilities. And i sure hope people have learned their lesson for now: Do not fuck with the plasma sword guy.

Thanks for the chapter. Very much enjoy the story.

Doleful

I do agree that the chapter is a bit rougher than usual, but it is an early draft so going over it a couple of times will help and it was still an enjoyable read. With Dinah now safe I do hope the circumstances surrounding events since Anakin’s debut will be cleared up. Because, honestly, this dude just wanted to protect Dinah. At her request even. Everything else was the environment essentially forcing him to escalate. The PRT fucked up majorly and, knowing them, instead of owning up to that they’ll just shift the blame and try to demonize Anakin more to keep their public image. Kinda funny that now that he finally has the chance to shake his pedo reputation he’s at risk of getting labeled a Ziz meat puppet. I think that’s like 100x worse than being a Ziz bomb in peoples’ eyes. Also, how do you even shake that label? Anything you do to try to deny it can just be attributed to the Simurgh trying to keep their cover. With Legend coming to the bay I hope we get some insight into what Cauldron thinks of Anakin. I’m sure Anakin will just absolutely love their way of operating. Might even remind him of Palpatine a bit tbh.

Shaker 'yes' , broke me. Ive been giggling like an idiot every time i recall that line. XD

Mac-something

Shadow Stalker has become a Susanoo fan girl? Oh dear, I can already feel the headache she can cause for Anakin.

Honestly, I think it's fine. Vista's one of the absolute strongest first-generation triggers we know of that hasn't had an explicit, truly horrible, first-trigger situation of corresponding danger. As far as we're informed, she got it from a bad home life due to her parents' shitty parenting and failing marriage. I don't want to trivialize that, because it can be a terrible situation (that I both have some experience in, and know individuals with even more), but this is not an uncommon situation, and her powers have a corresponding Shaker 9 rating (with the ability to fuck with continents at scale in some situations). For most other individuals, to get this level of power, we would expect them to be living around something crazy like lava or pools of acid for long periods before nearly falling into one to get this kind of power. Compared to the majority of triggers we've seen it's almost on the level of a second-gen trigger instead where you need a terrible moment but it can be more 'mundane' for what counts as the build-up to the trigger, with a tremendous amount of power. I feel like with that background, this was a perfectly acceptable second trigger.

nugitoBambino

oh is that why she had a double trigger? I thought it was because it wasn't 'solving' being locked in a locker. Idk, that's always been a WoG moment

Maybe you already fixed it but I didn't notice many spelling or grammar issues. Or, at least, when I did see them they were part of the PHO sections and I waved them off as intentional internet writings. For editing without an individual, Grammarly has been a godsend for me when I'm writing emails for work since I never have time to get someone to check all the little stuff I need to send out. Also, it's much more convenient than an editor even if it's less good for strategic-level changes.

It was 6 AM here... I was still writting so I can't really blame you.

CapitaoCav

Hmmm... well, I tried to show the entire city mimicking her "Supposedly" trigger enviroment. However, there have been canon cases where, when a power couldn't be used for some reason, it changed to allow use, and that's the justification I used here. For example, if a power required line of sight and you lost your vision, it COULD result in the power changing requirement. Powers want to be used so... Notice I said COULD, not would, so it's not a certain thing.

CapitaoCav

Thanks, I don't really have someone who can do that, but one of my readers does like to go over the chapters when I post them and that helps. I also tend to have google read me the chapter, and that catches some mistakes, only I didn't do it this time. Honestly? I should have waited to post this chapter after I woke up, but I hope it wasn't too terrible to read.

CapitaoCav

It has. As I said, in canon a second trigger isn't a power up, it's an exchange. There have also been cases where, when a parahuman can't use his power for too long for any reason, his power changes. Grue's second trigger made his darkness significantly slower, for example. Supposedly, Taylor's double trigger (A second trigger happening right after the first) was because her power was too much for her to handle, so it's possible her range may have been much greater before it happened.

Gabriel Waldorff

Is good. You might want to sit down in the editor and read it aloud at a slow even pace, I personally find all the spelling and majority of grammar issues that way in one session rather than multiple read throughs. That's just me when I edit what I write, if you already have a good method that works for you then don't change it.

thevolunteer

Should keep the scale of her powers when manton limits are being respected. I don’t think a second trigger has ever limited a power.

Luxanna Aeterna

So all of the Undersiders managed to survive. That's good. To me it seems Vista has gotten her second trigger a bit easy. Like her shard decided that since it got to damaged to strech space, it needs to change the power of it's host. And it (doesn't) look like we have some bew stranger here...

Kadili Man

So she essentially turns things into a pseudo-mirror dimension within her range. You know I remember reading someone that the squidward guy that served Thanos and captured Dr. Strange used his magic abilities to make shards from the mirror dimension. That is what all of those needles were that he was poking Dr Strange with. Something like that could give Vista a weapon. She could twist the very space around her into needles that can pierce almost anything, but also shatter if hit. The chapter was good btw.

Nine

Good chapter. Vistas power up seems good for her, but not the guy that lost his feet.

kaalveiten

Neat! Thanks!
