I consider myself incredibly lucky that my parents have been wonderful. My biggest concern along these lines has been seeing the cultural shifts which are putting economy so far above family that culture is atomizing, families aren't forming, and a lot of this because it seems like people in general, let alone the genders, would rather go into isolation than deal with each other. You mention tyranny being able to take advantage of atomized individuals and that's another angle to which seeing social capital unravel is worrying.
